Yesterday at CES, Sony unexpectedly revealed PlayStation Now, a fascinating new service that will allow PlayStation 3 games to be played on PS4, PS Vita, televisions, tablets, and smart phones. The service is due to roll out in North America this summer, but a closed beta will begin later this month. And you, dear reader, can sign up for more “exclusive” information about the beta, likely resulting in some beta invitations being sent out to a few lucky folks. First, go to this website. There, you will need to insert your first and last name, as well as a valid e-mail address, your zip code, and, perhaps most importantly, your PSN ID. The website states that you will be kept “up with the latest news and updates on the evolution of PlayStation Now in the future” and that you can “[r]egister… to be the first to receive exclusive information on PlayStation Now.” It doesn’t implicitly state that you will receive a beta invitation, but this is usually how companies get the ball rolling on these kinds of things. In other words, it can’t hurt to sign-up. And maybe… just maybe… a beta invitation will roll into your inbox later this month.
I like the idea. But as a Subscription service ( I know why they did it, they have to recoup gaikai $380 Mill somehow) I think I'll just keep my PS3 for back catalogue gaming for digital games I've already purchased. But incredibly smart move on their part, they basically just turned an ipad, Tablet, Bravia TV, etc into a PS3 Console. Smart move
I think the latency will be annoying. It may work for some types of games, but good luck with anything that requires fast action.
Ive always like the playstations over xbox's, whats the latest in the new gen console wars? Is the PS4 emerging as the superior console? In other news, my girlfriends kids came back from the holidays with their dad and they each got an xbox one from him for xmas. So the last week I've been having a great time walking past their rooms and yelling Xbox Sign Off, while the play their game. I can mess them both up with one yell, who knew the xbox one could be so much fun!
This is even funnier!
