What do we think? http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...f/2014/01/canzano_from_now_on_thomas_rob.html
John Clownzano is not appreciated. What a horrible nickname that bears zero connection to "Robin's son" in the front court. Unless I missed the part where TRex eats a specific type of cereal every morning, noon, and night.
No doubt T Rob played great last night. My favorite part was after he made a great play he had the ball on the baseline and did not want to shoot it at first. He looked to pass then took it to the basket and scored with his left. Completely in control. He was used perfectly last night. i complained before that he was often out of position. Not sure if it was his fault or the system. But last night he was great. On another note I was one of Joel's few supporters last season. But his defensive improvements are really surprising. The coaches have done a remarkable job with him. Fundamentally sound. Still think he is better suited at PF (Size wise) , but for the amount of minutes he is playing, the center spot is fine. Between Joel and TRob, the bench bigs are fine IMO. Now if Mo and CJ can get some chemistry we will be in good shape.
Biggest surprise is Joel's defense, and the refs aren't calling him for as many ticky tack fouls. Most of what he does will never show up in a box score.
I don't get the basis for this nickname. Why Captain? Why Crunch? Robinson is not a captain. He's not team captain. He's never been in the military. The Admiral made sense for David Robinson, because he was in the Navy. Why Crunch? Robinson is a bench player who does not play during crunch time of close games. So, why Captain Crunch and not Captain Kirk, Captain America (at least Robinson is American) or Lieutenant Dan? BNM
Terrible nickname. Something like Tasmanian Robinson would be better, the way he likes to use spin moves.
We have a winner! My point exactly. Clownzano has more in common with Captain Crunch, as it would not surprise me to learn he maintains a steady diet of the sugar soaked croutons.
Good point on the refs. I keep waiting for them to blow the whistle, but they are giving him respect when he goes straight up. And he is almost always going straight up.
He has made a huge jump in defense this year. Reminds me of when Prz finally got the respect of the refs. Made a big difference in how he could defend because he wasn't getting whistled all the time.
He was in at crunch time last night and won the Phoenix game in crunch time. He loves the cereal too.
I've noticed the NBA has been doing a better job of allowing defenders to go straight up this year which is great to see. I hate when offensive players can just run out of control into the lane and get to the line.
It is a horrible nickname. Clownzano likes it because it reminds him of his own nickname.......Fruit Loop
I will admit to actually reading Canzano's column. I know, it will cost me negative rep points around here, but that's just the way it goes. For those of you who hold a near religious aversion to reading his work, the nickname "Captain Crunch" is a reference to the fact that T-Rob ate a bunch of cotton candy before last night's game and John attributes his energy off the bench to his sugar high. Thus, the tie-in to a sugary breakfast cereal that also points to the importance of his game in pulling out the "W" for the Blazers. I'll give it points for cuteness, but as others have noted, it's not like T-Rob is going to be on the court at crunch time on a regular basis. All-in-all it's a nickname fail.
