Lopez helps but he cannot do it all and Meyers Leonard is still completely clueless on the defensive side of the ball. Nick Collison is a proven defender willing to do whatever it takes to win he is the exact type of player Portland needs. In addition to the defense Collison provides Spencer Hawes would add a new dynamic to this offense and really stretch out opposing defenses. Making life much easier for LA on the block or for dribble penetration. Giving up Mo Williams required us to get a back up pg in this case we just so happened to get to the leagues best back up in Reggie Jackson. Even if we have to substitute McCollum for Williams the deal is worth it because of how young Jackson is. OKC: The Thunder are contenders so convincing them to make a deal might prove to be difficult. Especially one that asks them to give up Reggie Jackson. Giving them a player like Mo Williams allows them to keep a scorer on their bench. Freeland while not quite as refined as Collison plays hard and could fill in for Collison. The biggest addition for the Thunder would be Thaddeus Young, his addition would greatly improve the Thunder bench. In addition they find someone willing to take on Perkins contract. Philly: Despite the nice start it is clear that the 76ers want a high draft pick. The additions of Leonard, Robinson and Perkins would guarantee this team a top five pick for sure. In addition, they get two young players with potential in Robinson and Leonard. With Hawes and Young out of the way the team could offer both of them all the minutes they could handle. Finally, the team would receive probably 2 first round picks from the Thunder. They would likely get the Thunders pick this year and the highest pick from the Blazers, Thunder or Mavericks in 2016. To recap: Portland gets a young dynamic back up PG, a quality post defender in Collison and a floor stretching back up C in Hawes. The deal would certainly cost a 2016 first round pick and the young talent of Robinson, Leonard and maybe McCollum. If Portland can retain Hawes in the off-season or win a few playoff series with him this year than it would be worth gambling future assets. OKC gets rid of a terrible contract in Perkins adds a great scoring threat off the bench in Young, they also get either McCollum to replace the loss of Reggie Jackson. Long term it is likely the Thunder would want McCollum but Mo Williams might be a better short term fit considering his experience. Philly gets a guaranteed top 5 pick in a loaded draft an additional first round draft pick in this draft and a 2016 first rounder. In addition, they get a couple young players who could blossom or be swapped later for additional picks.
Among many others, I don't think PHI is going to give up the cap space they're getting from their expirings this year for Perk (especially) and two relative busts like Robinson and Leonard.
The cap space would still be there even with the addition of Perkins Leonard and Robinson the team would only have a guaranteed salary of 22 million, add in 5 million for a high lottery pick and 2 for a low first rounder and the team still has around 30 million in cap space.
No offense but virtually every thread is a waste, the Blazers do not look at these threads to see who we think should play, the writers we critique or praise do not come on here to read what we write about them. Basically these threads do a few things they allow you to either make friends, have fun, get in fights, piss people off, and provide interesting things to read and write about during the several months of the year when Portland's weather is complete garbage.
Two young assets and a couple first round picks how much do you expect them to end up getting out of Spencer Hawes and Thaddeus Young?
We don't need any big trades. If the Blazers do anything it should be something small to bring in a veteran defensive wing and to free up a spot on the roster.
With all due respect, I don't care for that. If we were to trade Mo, I would be fine with Watson coming off the bench or a combination of Lillard, Matthews, McCollum and Watson with maybe some spot time for Barton. I also would rather have a tougher guy like Freeland than Hawes. I know Hawes has more experience but that also comes with a higher eventual price tag. I'll also say I am very pleased with Freeland's progress and I think he is just getting better. Collison is intriquing but T-Rob is more of the type of backup PF we need. I'm also looking at chemistry. Ultimately I think this hurts our chemistry and let's face it, that is a huge reason why we've started out as well as we have.
Yeah I agree regarding Hawes. If we get a better backup center he needs to be a defensive presence. Hawes is a downgrade from Freeland in that regard.
