The Spokane Shock have been assigned defensive back Dontrell Johnson to the 2014 roster. Dontrell Johnson (5-10, 180, Murray State) makes his rookie debut in the AFL with the Shock in 2014. Johnson spent two years with the Murray State Racers contributing at defensive back and as a return specialist. His first year with the Racers in 2010 Johnson returned 15 punts for 342 yards and two touchdowns while also returning 16 kickoffs for 323 yards. His added 67 tackles (7.5 for loss) and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) earned him second-team All-OVC Defensive Back and second-team All-OVC Return Specialist honors. Johnson added another 40 tackles, one interception, 11 kickoff returns for 182 yards and 10 punt returns for 162 yards. Johnson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012. He has also spent time with the NFL's Detroit Lions. Johnson spent two years at Garden City Community College prior to his time at Murray State where he recorded 11 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. " Dontrell's talent really jumped out on film, both as a defensive back and as a return man. We expect him to compete for playing time right away," Shock General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden said.
