The Iowa Barnstormers continue to prepare for the upcoming season as Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announces the signing of K Jose Martinez. The agreement states a one year contract for the 2014 season as Martinez becomes the twenty-seventh player named to the Barnstormers roster. Martinez (5'11, 215) will play his third season in the AFL as an Iowa Barnstormer. Formerly of the Chicago Rush, Martinez made his mark on the 2013 AFL season for his accuracy in PATs. Concluding the season, he was ranked second with 90.2% accuracy in PATs after converting 119-of-132 for Chicago. As for field goal attempts, Martinez was less consistent converting 2-of-12. His rookie season in the AFL, Martinez displayed his talent for the Milwaukee Mustangs, more recently known as the Portland Trail Blazers. An outbreak season, the rookie kicker went 56-of-64 in extra points and 20-of-27 in field goals. Martinez's college football career played at the University of Texas at El Paso is where he is recognized for converting a 64-yard field goal in 2008, the second longest in NCAA history.
