The 2013 South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that wide receiver Willie Carter has been assigned to the team's roster on a one-year rookie contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 23-year-old Carter (6'1", 205) is set for his first experience in the Arena Football League. He comes to Jacksonville with a taste of National Football League experience, as Carter was invited to mini-camp with the Washington Redskins following the 2012 NFL Draft. Carter turned pro after a standout career at Howard University. As a senior in 2011, he led the Bison in every major receiving category, totaling 60 receptions for 731 yards and seven touchdowns. With that performance, Carter earned a spot on the 2011 All-MEAC First Team. A consistent performer throughout his collegiate career, Carter grabbed at least 29 receptions, 447 yards and three touchdowns in each of his four seasons at the school, totaling 2,401 yards and 11 touchdowns on 179 career catches. Carter also added one rushing touchdown and one kick return touchdown in his time with the Bison. Carter is a native of Denmark, South Carolina, and attended Denmark-Olar High School, where he was an All-State selection as both a junior and a senior. Press release from the Jacksonville Sharks
