I was hoping once A rod was suspended the Yanks would go after Drew or a better option for third base. I am hoping Cash has something up his sleeve that we don't know about. I am not TN thrilled with the options right now.
Well Jill the way I see it is this............ 1) Sign Drew & move Jeter to 3B 2) Platoon Nunez & Johnson 3) Resign Reynolds.
Reynolds said no because they only offered him a minor league deal and I really don't want to see error Nunez playing so now I am hoping for a trade or signing drew.
No one left is any great shakes. I'd live with nunez with some johnson as platoon when hes not playing second. Nunez gives you speed average and a little pop and with tex back at first iwll have most of his bad throws caught. tread water here for a year or 2 till the notre dame kid is ready to take over
So currently we have no regular 3rd baseman & no back up 1st baseman. I'm still hoping the Yankees can solve the latter & help out at DH by signing Morales.
Tough to see Morlaes here rick even though I like him also as tex will play most of the games at first unless hurt and dh slot will be cluttered by beltran, jeter and even mccann when being rested. Just not enough playing time for him for the ammount of money he'll want. I think kelly johnson's power numbers in yankee stadium are going to surprise people
I see your point on Morales. I mean this is a player that SHOULD get 400-500 ABs & yeah, I don't see that happening. So here's hoping Tex can stay healthy otherwise the Yankees are going to be kicking themselves.
I know it should happen but I just don't see it happening. And remember that would only come into question if we sign Drew. Which the Yankees don't appear to be in any big hurry to do.
Jeter is never playing third as a yankee. I think this is probably his last season unless he does something crazy like bat .300 and get around 200 hits again which I'll be rooting for but not likely.
Honestly, we don't even know if Jeter can still play considering the injury and his age... let alone learn a new position... wasn't Cal Ripken Jr. younger when he changed positions?
ok, so my points stand... Jeter is a few years older (currently 39) and coming off a major injury that basically made last season irrelevant... I just don't buy a transition to a new position in the season where he turns 40...
...gotta believe that the decision on who plays 2nd, 3ed, and SS, won't be made for awhile. There are still FAs out there plus trades that may be made. We simply cannot foresee how Jeter will pan out and he's the wild card in all this.
It seems that I'm always agreeing with either Rick or 59 on certain issues, but in this case, 59 is right because there is a lot of movement still to come. What if the Yankees have the following scenario, 1) If successful in signing Tanaka, this then enhances their playoff chances. 2) Then sign Balfour 3) And now that you have blown the budget, you add Arroyo or whomever you want from the free agent pool. 4) and then at worse case you sign Young... And you have had as good of an off season as humanly possible unless you consider the loss of Cano devastating which I don't
Well Frank as far as agreeing with me its understandable because you're just following genius. However in the case of 59 I can only assume that its a case of just respecting your elders.
I think the Yankees go full steam ahead now with a trade for a real 3B, with the assumption that Arod is done, and Nunez will not be in the mix for 2014 IMO, he'll either be traded or use his last minor league option, the guy is terrible with both the bat and glove, he's not a major league player, his days as a Yankee may even be numbered.
Honestly I think the Yankees are done with any more MAJOR moves. Especially after picking up unknown infielder Scott Sizemore who hasn't played in 2 years.
I don't, I think they've just been waiting on the Arod decision, another big move is coming, maybe two.
