I liked the rotation tonight Wes played back up 3 while cj played the 2 cj basically takes Wright's minutes, seemed to work because between cj and wes we can continue to handle the ball vs batum being replaced by wright who made me cringe everytime he put the ball on the floor. I also like t robs energy, I think splinters in his ass helped, I hope he and Leonard challenge each other to get better.
Uh-oh--CJ's getting minutes over established veteran Dorell Wright, who turned down a chance to play for OKC to come here, ostensibly because he would play more. Our vaunted chemistry is now going to be destroyed by the dissension which will be generated over these 13 mpg. Season. Over.
well it's also a players league and the guys who play better play and get bigger contracts, too bad for Wright but he has not played well at all
What I like most about CJ is he plays the team game just like everyone else on the team. He doesn't force it, and is fine moving the ball around hitting open people. He seems to play efficient, like Brandon Roy, and like Roy he doesn't appear to have blazing speed, but doesn't seem to have a problem getting by someone. I haven't seen enough of a sample size to make an opinion on D yet. I think he will make some rookie turnovers as he gets used to the speed of the game. Because he is a player that will let the game come to him his scoring will be up and down. He isn't a guy like Mo who is going to take his shots regardless, but that is good.
His game reminds me A LOT of Roy. The ability to drive and finish, and that little pull-up jumper that he has. Very much like Roy, but BRoy never had that floater like CJ does.
Coming out of college CJ reminded me of a cross between Eric and Ben Gordon. Each of them listed in that 6'3-6.4" range. Obviously Eric is sturdier with the extra 20 lbs, but all good mid range shooters, good ball handlers for SGs, but not really PG's. I would be happy with either scenario minus the attitude, injuries, and over paid contracts.
I really want to see the highlights of his points last night. I missed the whole damn game. Only got to see his floater and his first three.
Has this been posted? BRoy, anyone?
Yeah, definitely some Roy in there, and some Andre Miller... in that he can be going against bigger guys, and you are thinking no way he can get a shot up, and as if by magic he gets enough space to get it off. There are very few Blazers right now that are great at taking it to the basket, he can really help in that department. I see some Lillard and McCollum together in the future.
I don't know that this is necessarily true, at least for the Blazers. May be we trade him a year or two down the road for a position of greater need, especially if he turns into a Lillard clone. But otherwise in the future there are 96 minutes of PT between PG, SG and SF: Lillard 35MPG CJ 35MPG Matthews 35MPG Batum 35MPG Misc 4mpg None of those 4 guys are really one-position men. Lillard and CJ can play 1/2. Matthews can play 2/3. Batum can basically play 1/2/3. The pieces fit together quite nicely, actually, provided they all stay healthy and CJ is as good as he first appears. It's about having 4 quality guys to man 3 positions, and one of them comes in off the bench.
I don't think he's a Lillard clone because many of his strengths are currently weaknesses for Dame. After watching him a bit, he has a much better mid-range game and I think he's better at finishing at the rim. He has a floater, while Dame currently does not. Lillard is definitely the superior shooter though.
