Re: Aldridge would resign I completely agree here! LaMarcus has character that's rare to find in a superstar! I think he'll end up a career Blazer and be considered the greatest to play in Portland ever..give him whatever it takes because he's the new Tim Duncan of the NBA and he's a Blazer!
"When the appropriate time comes, which is not now, that is a conversation that will happen between (owner) Paul Allen, myself, LaMarcus and his agent (Arn Tellum)," Olshey says. "It's not a conversation that's going to play out in the media in January." Subtle dig at Roy? I love LMA's candor. He's a very smart guy, and knows how to lead.
The way his contract renegotiation happened was very public and in the media. I suppose his dig would be more at the media for sucking and Pritchard for being a fool and not telling the media to die in a fire.
I don't remember Roy talking about his contract a year and a half before it ended, and during January, no less. Huh?
I agree with Olshey. Keep these discussions in-house and behind closed doors. I was furious at KP for not giving Roy the MAX right away and it played out everywhere in the media. Well, looking back, we all know why KP was so hesitant to offer the deal. As fans we like to think we know everything about every situation regarding our team, but the truth is, there's a lot of untold information. Hopefully we can bring back LA for a long time, but I'll let Neil and Paul decide the terms of the agreement.
This is great. Wasn't it just 8 months ago he was on his way out of town according to some. Very happy he wants to stay in the PDX!
Oh come on this has been rehashed to death. LMA never asked to be traded but had some quotes he said out of frustration that got taken out of context then that all got added in with details like "olshey met with lemarcus agent over lunch" and a report by someone saying LA wanted to be traded but was completely made up but that didn't stop every beat writer from rehashing it. Word on the street was, he was guaranteed to not be a Blazer when this season started. But since that guarantee didn't pan out, then using the transitive property, he'll be gone by the trade-dead line - absolutely sure on that guarantee. But if he's not, there was another guarantee he will be gone after this season is over. And if not by then, he's guaranteed to opt out. Book it.
Actually, most of the people who thought he would be traded backed off the prediction after Neil added such a great bench over the offseason, and I don't remember anyone thinking he'd be traded after the team started off so strong. Brian and I felt pretty strong that he would be gone because we completely underestimated Olshey's ability to rebuild the team so quickly. I think most of the trade threads were before the draft or before the free agency period opened. I personally didn't think the team would be even remotely this good. I wanted to tank to keep our pick and move LA to restock the roster. Neil went out and restocked the roster without sacrificing chemistry or talent. It's not surprising that Aldridge wants to stay now. He has no chance of going to Houston in free agency, and Detroit looks like horse shit after Dirk retires. Has anyone really pushed the "trade LA" agenda in the last few months?
