<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Duke's Paulus out indefinitely with broken bone in footDuke sophomore point guard Greg Paulus had surgery Monday to repair a break in his fifth metatarsal in his left foot and will be ruled out indefinitely. Duke is expected to make a formal announcement later Monday. Paulus injured his foot Saturday in practice. While Paulus is out, the Blue Devils will use a committee of players handling the ball: forward Josh McRoberts, wings DeMarcus Nelson and Jon Scheyer and guard Gerald Henderson. Scheyer and Henderson are freshmen. The injury to Paulus is similar to what befell Carlos Boozer during his Duke career. Paulus, an ACC All-Freshman team honoree last season, averaged 6.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game a year ago while starting 33 of 36 games. He joined Ed Cota (North Carolina, 1997), Jeff Jones (Virginia, 1979) and Kenny Anderson (Georgia Tech, 1990), as the only players to lead the ACC in assists as freshmen. Paulus also set a Duke freshman record with 15 assists in a 104-77 win over Valparaiso on Dec. 18. McRoberts, an ACC All-Freshman team and ACC All-Tournament second team selection in 2006, posted the team's top field goal percentage -- 60.5 percent -- last season. He was also on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game and second in blocked shots (46) and rebounding (5.3 rpg.). Nelson, one of three upperclassman on the Duke roster, is coming off an injury-plagued sophomore campaign. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while playing in 24 games, including seven starts. Nelson shot 45.2 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from 3-point range. The Blue Devils open the 2006-07 season Nov. 12 at home against Columbia.</div>LinkI think this is a major hit on the program. I was thinking they would be one of the many favourites for the national championship, but with this injury, I'm not so sure. Of course they will still be good, I'm jsut sure they lose a ton of experience and ability with Paulus out. Even with Paulus, I didn't think they could get past UNC in the ACC, but with this its even more less likely. Even with a lot of doubters every year, Coach K still makes Duke Basketball one of the top teams in the nation even when they don't have the greatest talent.

Hate to see guys get injured, but you can't help to see the hole in the ACC that just opened up for because and UNC.

This news is no good, I'm a fan of Paulus. He is a very smart player, he is a guy that can run that team. He's a very good playmaker and he is a hustler. His defense was also a bit overlooked last year because he's not the biggest guard, but he is a solid defender. He was due for a big year as well, IMO anyway. This is a shame, Duke will miss him.

I thought we was going to see Paulus do much better this year than last. He didn't do a great job last year at Duke, but he did a good job considering he was freshman starting for the biggest college basketball program in the country. Some things he needed to work on this year was pace, which I'm sure Coach K helped with. There was alot of times it seemed Paulus got excited on the court, and made stupid plays, trying to play to fast. If he would have slowed down at times, things would have been better for him. Also defensively, at times he stayed a little flat footed, and couldn't move side to side or laterally very well. I was excited to see him come back, work on these this offseason and be even better in the upcoming season. Hopefully he is not out to long.
