Maybe if you look at stats, but he was extremely hesitant to shoot them and was usually wide open b/c teams gave him a lot of room. In that sense he still wasn't spreading the floor for a Stotts system. If you watched the games you would know this. You can't compare a guy like Ray Allen and another guy like Lebron's 3-Pt %, one has hands in his face every time b/c his whole game is the long ball and the other the other team is giving room hoping he'll shoot it.
Ah, the "watch the games" canard. Yes, you're right. I don't watch any NBA basketball. I am just making up that other teams sag off of Andre Miller and dare him to shoot the ball, which he fails at repeatedly compared to Jason Kidd did on those Dallas teams.
When Mo's shot is on, the offense is fine. When Mo's shot is off, the offense is shit whenever Batum isn't on the floor. We would be less reliant on riding our starters and the jump shot if we had a true PG like Miller even to play 15 mpg. Getting your bigs some easy buckets helps everyone out, creates a flow when the shots just aren't falling.
It means that Mo wasn't ever a great playoff player. No one on those cavs teams were. They needed leadership and all they did was stand around and watch Lebron, occasionally getting hot on wide open shots. Mo's playoff experience isn't going to help us.
That's exactly what happens with Dre. But the guy still gets great assist and FG% numbers due to points in the paint. You don't have to have 5 guys on the floor who can shoot 3's, Stotts knows this. There's not even enough room on the floor for that. Dre plays in the post a lot more than most PG's anyways, where he has a huge advantage. Playing with a stretch 4 he's fine.
If we're going to cherry pick stats... http://bkref.com/tiny/TWU0D Among non-starting guards with Assist to Turnover ratios above 2.5, Miller has the second highest PER... And Mo isn't on the list because of his A/TO ratio.
I'm back in the Mo camp now actually. Looking at his Per 24 minutes against other backup guards, he's high reward for his high risk.
Okay, I have now tried for half an hour to get Sergio and Wilt Chamberlain onto a short list and ...grr...not...getting...anywhere...
