It's 2014 and apparently Sarah Palin is relevant.

that actually would be interesting to see what would happen. Kind of like the little ice age that many believe helped the Colonialists during the Revolutionary war (if my history is right).

I think if the oceans all froze, the planet would die. We need the ocean conveyor belt to work, and a frozen ocean(s) would kill that, and in the end, kill us.

Don't know if "neat" is the word I'd use, but interesting.

Yep, but why let any facts get in the way. After all there are over 57 states, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpGH02DtIws

So glad a thread about maps didn't turn into a pissing contest about politics.

I'm just having some fun. But seriously, if you post a Al Gore / Inconvenient Truth type map what did you seriously expect??

I expect people who are adults to be able to have adult observations about maps.

The basis for the line was Governor Palin's 11 September 2008 appearance on ABC News, her first major interview after being tapped as the vice-presidential nominee. During that appearance, interviewer Charles Gibson asked her what insight she had gained from living so close to Russia, and she responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska":

(Watch in her own words, video at the link).

    Re: Neat maps

She may be a dolt, but she was factual in what she said, even to the point of talking about islands. Maybe it was a lucky guess, but she was correct, although I'd assume that someone who grew up in Alaska, and became governor of Alaska, would know more about the state than Tina Fey and the mindless voters who believed the "I can see Russia from my house!" joke. Sad to say, my own mother was one of those who believed the Tina Fey stuff until I Snoped it for her.

I'm convinced by your posts that you believe Sarah Palin is an idiot and there is nothing anyone can do to convince you otherwise. When presented with facts you doubled down and said "There is no way in hell that Sarah had a clue about these 3 magical vantage points in Alaska before she spoke her infamous words. That is my point. Sure, her statement may have been "true", but give me a fucking break -- that lady is a dolt!" To paraphrase PapaG…the governor of the state just MIGHT know those facts before she said them. I'm just tired of the wrongful personal destruction of her. But I'm "just posting shit"
