Tanking like a champ. I'll only celebrate if they get screwed in the Draft lottery which I doubt. hoop fam
The Lakers are going to suck even with the #1 pick. That roster is horrific. Their big hope now is Kevin Love will come to town in 18 months. I'm not worried.
Guess what, next year Phoenix gets the Lakers pick even if its #1 overall. They are closer to the Isiah Thomas built Knicks than any kind of a playoff team. edit: its actually protected top5, so hopefully they get the 6th pick!
You know if your not a Lakers fan I would like to see the Lakers win because this is a very strong draft we have coming up. Just sayin.
We joke, but the Lakers have lost 9 out of their last 10 and are tied for 6th worst, only 1.5 games out of top 4 worst. It's not impossible for them to win the lotto.
I just think it's neat that for once when we are about to get good the Lakers are not. They were a thorn in the early 90's. They were a thorn in the early 00's and even in the late 00's they were right there contending when Roy was trying to make his mark. We might be able to skate by a year or two without them being a thorn in our side.
Ahh thanks you are right. The site I viewed had no protections on that pick but top5 protections on their 2017 pick they owe Orlando. I hope both picks are #6 http://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/DraftTrades/Future/Lakers.htm
So how good of a team does that make them next year? Instead of being the worst team in the league I think they could maybe be the 5th worst. Even if they get the #1 pick its a great era to be a Laker hater.
That's the best part - none of those rookies is going to be able to salvage that roster immediately. Kobe is still going to be eating up cap space, and there's just not much else there.
I'm as big a Laker hater as anyone, but they could be VERY good, even championship good. They'll have only $35 mil on their cap with Kobe/Sacre/Young + Nash. Which means they could probably sign a max player + get the best player in a loaded draft. In addition, they could parley a $10 mil expiring contract at next year's deadline into another star - Cleveland basically just did that. Shit could happen, players want to play in LA and they have cap space. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/la_lakers.htm
Can't they amnesty K*be in the off-season and pay him for the rest of his contract? Maybe the extension was an early golden parachute agreement?
You'd be almost as good as this guy -
