You might be right but so does losing in the first round of the playoffs, which is still a distinct possibility for this team based on its horrible defense

Losing in the first round is a danger the majority of playoff teams face. I'd like to see us shore up the defense by then, but I admit that it's probably unlikely we see a major difference. In my view, we don't improve with this trade. I realize there's a win now attitude. That's not accomplished by having Collison as the only bench big guy. Hawes is no inside banger and should Aldridge and/or Lopez, knock on wood, become injured, I just don't think we would have enough depth at the 4/5, even if we signed a D-Leaguer or someone else to fill the vacant roster spot.

Face it without a trade if LA or Lopez get injured our front court would be in a lot worse shape having to rely on Robinson, Leonard or Freeland starting than it would with Collison or Hawes filling in.

That still doesn't get us out of the first round.

My bench would be Jackson, Williams or McCollum, Wright, Collison and Hawes combined with the way our starters have been playing if that does not get us out of the first round it is very likely nothing will.

Then apparently we won't get out of the first round. Look, I understand you would like this trade to happen, but the fact is, we don't really improve enough, if at all, to pull the trigger on it.

It really doesn't matter though. It's extremely unlikely either OKC or Philly would go for it anyway.

I take it you really do not care for Hawes cause he is a major upgrade over Leonard IMO, I also believe Collison represents a sizable upgrade over Freeland and Robinson. Lastly Jackson is better than Mo Williams and CJ McCollum right now. So while we might lose out down the road I feel quite confident that we would be making a short term improvement at 3 positions.

Leonard is not our backup center. Freeland is. While he's still rough, he's an inside guy which is what we need more than a seven foot outside shooter. Remember, we have the highest scoring offense in the league. As deficient as our defense has been, this disrupts our offense. Jackson is not better than Williams at this point. He may become better just about the time he would leave. McCollum is too much of a question mark. Frankly, I would like to see how he pans out. We were probably lucky to get him in such a weak draft, but the potential is there.

Again, I understand you want to make this trade or apparently any number of trades. I'm very confident this does not help this year nor in the future. Like I said earlier, neither of the other teams are going to go for this trade. I'd even add that I don't see Olshey looking seriously at such a deal either.

Not true. Well thought out trade ideas are interesting and fun. I've created threads that have received around 500 comments - mostly debate, additional trade ideas, etc.

The trade threads with the most posts seem to be full of people trolling. My thread has not had many replies but at least people like Bill make civil arguments,

Personally, I agree with the idea of trading for Hawes, but I wouldn't want to give up much more than Leonard and Wright for him. Barton too. The idea of a Hawes/Freeland/Robinson reserve frontcourt makes me tingle just a little bit. With CJ's emergence, Wright is clearly expendable, since Matthews can slide up to the 3 when Batum is out, as can Crabbe or Claver for a few minutes if necessary. In fact, Hawes' presence could open up playing time for Claver, in that having an outside threat at center would accomodate a non-shooting, good-at-everything-else SF.

The proposed deal for Jackson is not only unrealistic for OKC, but detrimental to us, IMO. Dealing for Hawes would be great though.

The Hawes part of your proposal is intriguing and would still give us two bench banging types. I don't dislike Hawes. I just think he plays a particular role. In your scenario, it could be a good deal for the reasons you mention. It also would seem to open up a roster spot or two which could be filled by a young, project type guy.

I am still in awe that this forum can have a civilized debate, there is hope yet.

Hawes is a UFA after this season. Watching him leave after giving up Ropez would be a risk too big to take.

I appreciate the shout out. Even if I don't agree with something, there's no need to throw a tantrum. It's a matter of acting as an adult, saying my peace and moving on.

Yeah, nobody's interested in Hawes as a replacement for Lopez, just as a supplement to him.
