Going back to the 1920s (9 decades) only 5 times has a players surpassed 400 HRs Unfortunately only 2 of those players did it legitimately. I'll list the leaders through the years........... !920-1929 Babe Ruth = (467) 1930-1939 Jimmie Foxx = (415) 1940-1949 Ted Williams = (244) 1950-1959 Duke Snyder = (326) 1960- 1969 Harmon Killibrew = (393) 1970-1979 Willie Stargel = (296) 1980-1989 Mike Schmidt = (312) 1990-1999 Barry Bonds = (410) and Mark McGwire = (405) 2000-2009 Alex Rodriquez = (435) All I can say is, I loved the game more during the 60s, 70s & 80s
Harmon Killebrew....one of my favorite all time players/sluggers. Hit 40 or more HRs eight times. He was one of the first "modern" sluggers (if not the first), to drop the bat, slowly leave the batters box while watching his homers. He was probably the premier HR hitter of the 1960's.
He was the premier HR hitter of the 60s & he only moved slowly to 1st because he was built like Ralph Kramden
