An opinion? Mine was an opinion just like his.

    No need to get defensive.

For the sake of transparency, I shall put IMO. If it'll make it easier for you, IMO. Okay, IMO?

If I may, I might suggest that you could explain what facts, or stats, or observations, etc., leads you to that opinion... for the sake of adding something to the topic of course. ;)

Okay. I will do that, so long as you provide your stats without being condescending or belittling to others. Deal? ;)

I don't know why you stating that someone's take is subjective is not condescending, but someone saying your opinion is subjective is. It wasn't my intent, just an observation. I am certain you could bring more to the discussion that simply saying something akin to "you're wrong" or "that's highly subjective"... just add the "why" and make it your take.

If I end up disagreeing your take entirely, then you should expect no less from me. ;)

The term "star" itself denotes a popularity contest, subject to what interests the masses, and has almost nothing to do with merit. At the same time, the masses are led by the league, ESPN, and their sponsors to follow certain 'stars', and the sheep follow. When I said Portland isn't a hotbed of 'stars', I didn't mean we don't or can't have good players, just that this isn't a major media market and we are not media darlings. One would hope the coaches and other players would base their vote on actual talent, impact and performance. I guess that's why there are separate All NBA and All Defensive teams, selected at the end of the season that does not include voting by the sheep led by the league, its media, and its sponsors.

This circus called All Star Weekend is almost pathetic in how it tries to generate 'buzz' about the NBA's product. I generally don't watch any of it, unless one of my Portland Trail Blazers is involved. So I guess I'll be suffering through some of it this year. It's a good problem to have! :)

Yikes, you're right. I would have never thought Ben Wallace was popular enough with the fans to get voted as an all-start starter. Then I remembered how weak the center position was in the NBA 10 years ago.

The allstar game is the NBA's version of the grammy awards. Players slapping each other on the back and a whole lotta photo ops. I loved the Sheed never wanted to participate in it. Sheed would say it cuts too deep into needed rest mid-season and he was probably right. So many great players have not been voted in, it's not a slight any more than it's a gauge of marketing power. Jeremy Lin is not the wests starting pt guard and although he's a good player, he's not a superstar by any stretch. Kevin Garnett is not an allstar this season nor is Ray Allen. IMO fans should be eliminated from the voting altogether and only coaches, refs and hall of fame members should vote.
