With the amount of flopping on the rise again the current anti flopping rules aren't working.

I'd like to see the league rule that when they later find a player flop, the opposing team will be awarded 3 points after the game is over. If it changes the outcome, then so be it.

Minnesota, Houston and Miami may only win 5 games a year.

It would be easy to deal with actually. Start suspending players without pay.

I think every fan base should get a blow dart gun to ward off floppers.

Referees lose a testicle anytime they call a flop, that would end it really quick!

can't remember the ref poster here, but had a great post on a lot of this. And ultimately came to penalizing the refs for screwing it up. make them hesitant to call the ridiculous flop, and they won't be called. A multi, multi millionaire losing 5 grand is pathetic. Bit different to hit the refs

I think you start taking away wins. That will stop teams from doing it, quick, fast, and in a hurry.

The refs need to be the ones held responsible. The players are just doing it because they get the call. If the refs stop calling it, guys will stop doing it because it leaves their team playing 4 on 5 if they do it on defense, and it often becomes a turnover if they do it on offense.

But, that probably won't happen since a lot of the flops benefit the guys that the NBA wants to market as its stars, so I guess we just have to bend over and take it.

What a stupid idea. Yes, let's let the NBA start deciding which teams win or lose based on perceived flops. :MARIS61:

That would be just another way for them to fuck us over. You know the floppingest teams in the league with the biggest name stars would never be penalized as much as we would for minor flopping.

Even if it is a foul, if you flop, it should negate that foul and a team foul is assessed to the flopper.

I try. I sit here and think, "what is the stupidest idea that someone could say about this topic?" And when it comes to me, I go ahead and post it.

Let me ask you this though, does it take long to come up with the most assholish post possible, or are you just gifted in that regard?

Electric shock collars. You flop 3 times during the season you have to wear a shock collar. Each time you flop after that you get electrocuted.

You guys are misunderstanding. I wasn't saying that the NBA should sit in a room and assess losses based on flops. I meant that the way to stop teams is by hurting them in the win/loss column, which as I posted earlier in the thread, start suspending players. That will cost them wins. If Harden can't play because he has been flopping, Houston will lose games. Plain and simple.

    I worded it poorly.

Letting the NBA decide whether or not they should reverse wins based on how they view flopping is a stupid idea to me. I'm sorry if that hurts your feelers, NateBishop3.

It seems like a dumb idea to me. :dunno:

That's not what I meant though. I phrased the post wrong. I posted earlier that they should start suspending players, which would start costing teams games. Not actually take away games won. Sorry if you misunderstood my post PapaG.

Ah. Gotcha. Yeah I didn't read your post that way.

Either way, I think punishing the players is treating the symptom rather than the illness. If the refs stop rewarding that behavior so predictably, they'll stop doing it. No one flops in pickup games (at least none that I've been a part of) because there isn't a ref there to bail your ass out and reward you for it. Flop in a pickup game, and everyone laughs at you.

I get that sometimes the refs can be fooled by a flop if the player is good at it or if the ref had a bad angle, but I find it hard to believe that the refs are fooled by all of the flops they call. You could see several of the Wolves flops coming before they even did it tonight, and they got the calls.

It's difficult to punish the refs because sometimes it's hard to tell. The players have gotten very good at selling the foul. Take Dame's offensive foul on Rubio. He just barely pushed off on Rubio as he changed direction and Rubio went flying like he was shot out of a cannon. He made the contact out to be more than it was, and players are commended for this kind of play. Refs are human. They can't see everything. If they see contact, even if it's only minor, but the player really sells it up, they're going to call the foul. We can only really tell that the player flopped because of instant replay.

If we start punishing the refs, they might not make a crucial call when the game is on the line because the player may or may not have been flopping and they don't want to be fined. If the league starts suspending players, they're actually killing the illness. It's the players that are cheating, and taking advantage of the fact that the refs make mistakes. If you start handing out suspensions and costing teams games, they will stop encouraging flopping.

But a ref should realize that about 90% of the time, if they see a jackass go flying, it's fake. If it's actual contact, it NEVER creates a reaction the way a flop does. Once they start training themselves to watch a guy throw himself a foot in the air as a reaction to a slight nudge, they'll start realizing the guy is full of shit.
