It was a poor decision by the Blazers to get rid of him.

I was the one who argued for a 5-year, $5 million deal.

Seriously? We need another Oden thread?

And you're saying it was a mistake to get rid of him two years ago when he is JUST now playing again?

Also, you're assuming that Greg wanted to come back. I don't think he did. He signed the one-year deal to remove his restricted status and then I think he was going to bounce the fuck out.

I don't get it.... the guy isn't exactly lighting the world on fire.

He has played in five games since returning.

Vs Washington - 6 points off 2-3 shooting and 2 rebounds in 8 minutes.
Vs Charlotte - 1 point off 1-2 FTA and 0-0 FG with no rebounds in 5 minutes.
Vs Boston - 2 points off 1-3 shooting, 1 rebound and 1 block in 6 minutes.
Vs LAL - 5 points off 2-5 shooting, 5 rebounds, and 1 block in 10 minutes.
Vs San Antonio - 3 points off 1-2 shooting, 1 rebound, 1 block, and 1 steal in 7 minutes (the game that you're watching right now and the reason this thread was started)

Let's go ahead and match this up against another similar player (in my opinion)

(We'll just take the last five games)

Vs Dallas - 8 points off 4-5 shooting, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist in 17 minutes
Vs Houston - 3 points off 1-3 shooting, 2 boards in 14 minutes.
Vs OKC - 0 points off 0-1 shooting, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in 11 minutes.
Vs Denver - 4 points off 1-2 shooting, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals in 10 minutes.
Vs Minnesota - 6 points off 3-6 shooting, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 1 steal in 14 minutes.

Care to guess who the second player is?

What's his turnovers? Is he still bringing the ball low so it's easy to steal?

Why not? This is a message board about the NBA and the Blazers. That also includes former Blazers.

Yeah, I would. With his talent level, a long term nominal contract was perfect. Teams, like us, have players on a 15-man roster they never use. Oden could have rehabed... and if he ever played again, what a bonus for us.

Maybe he did and maybe he didn't. But this is a business. It's all about C.T.C.

Besides, tlongII is a beaver fan. He has to do something besides dreaming of hammering sheep all day.

Not a lot of turnovers yet, but still a ton of fouls.

3 fouls in 10 minutes against the Lakers.

2 fouls in 6 minutes against the Celtics.

3 fouls in 5 minutes against the Bobcats.

We should have signed him to a cheap deal. It was stupid to cut him. It wouldn't have limited our ability to make deals and he can still play.

Sure, one thread, but three or four separate threads about Oden? The guy hasn't played a game for us since 2009.

We had been waiting on him for years. I think the team wanted to clear the air. He was like a ghost haunting the team of what could have been. Also, it's not like we have roster spaces just sitting around not being used. We're actually pretty deep with young talent right now.

He needed a change of scenery. Blazer fans never would have accepted him for what he is now..... a shittier version of Thomas Robinson. The guy was supposed to be the most dominant big man in a generation. Do you think people would have been happy with him coming in and picking up 3 fouls in 5 minutes like he's doing with the Heat? The guy is done BP. It's only a matter of time. His knees will give out again and he'll be done.

He would have been a UFA and he would not have signed here again. He basically said that on his way out of town. That he wanted out of Portland.

He's doing more for the Heat than several players are doing for us.

Who? I would take Robinson and Freeland over Oden. Leonard might be a goof, but at least there's the possibility that he'll have a productive career if he matures and puts it all together. Oden is a 26 year old with the knees of a 40 year old.

Claver, Watson, Meyers (arguably) to name 3. You're telling me you'd rather have Claver over Oden?

You think that Greg would want to sit at the end of our bench and never play? Why would he have signed here? The Heat, as well as other teams, were offering him a chance to compete on a contender in the rotation. You're comparing him to the guys who are sitting at the end of our bench, and in Claver's case, not even on the bench. Why would Greg have signed up for that? Meyers isn't playing and I think the only reason why he isn't pissed is because he's too immature to care.

Sure he would if he was physically unable to. Otherwise he'd get some minutes and help develop Meyers (if that's possible).

Oden didn't want to be here.
