Sorry if this has already been posted. I thought it was interesting to see that the rebounding numbers put up by guys like Durant and James seem to be at least a little bit padded. Several Portland players came up so I thought this thread could go here. http://stats.nba.com/playerTracking...TED&sortOrder=DES&filters=MIN*GE*20**GP*GE*10 Filters: 20mpg, >10 GP Uncontested rebounds per game: Jordan LAC 8.4 Aldridge POR 8.3 Love MIN 8.0 Howard HOU 7.9 Cousins SAC 7.7 Contested rebounds per game: Drummond DET 5.6 Jordan LAC 5.5 Love MIN 4.9 Noah CHI 4.8 Howard HOU 4.7 Uncontested rebounding percentage: Durant OKC 78 Batum POR 78 James MIA 77 Gay TOR/SAC 77 Aldridge 72 (I haven't run these numbers myself so they may be off) Contested rebounding percentage: Kanter UTH 55 Anderson NOP 53 Johnson TOR 50 Lopez POR 50 Hibbert IND 49
Looks about right. Lopez fights off guys so his teammates can grab rebounds. Consequently, the ones he actually gets are usually fought for.
I guess you could make the argument that if Guy X is usually there or thereabouts when an open defensive rebound (late shot clock, etc) is to be collected and is usually the guy to make the outlet pass, team mates won't argue that point and proceed up the court with that expectation. Contested rebounding stats seem pretty awesome if they are accurate. I don't know if there is a more effort based stat you could come up with?
I was noticing just last night how Aldridge gets half his rebounds in easy wide open situations. Lopez always seems to be in the thick of the fight.
