...about as f'd up as a soup sandwich. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...d-wilpon-secures-refinancing-250-million-loan
Never liked the Mets or their ownership, however an 80+ million payroll restriction in a market like NY is totally restrictive. As far as Madoff, like many of his other victims, I wonder how much they made before the crash?
...and with these players already committed to, it does not leave them much wiggle room; https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tfJWfaPG4VXbDyBscIZf1MQ&output=html ...and it gets even worse next year.
I remember a Mets Fan telling me that the Mets originated in New York while the Yankees moved in from Baltimore. Yep they are original, name from an old American Association Team, colors from the Giants & Dodgers who deserted the area, logo from the New York Giants, current ballpark based on Ebbets Field. How original, I did respect the hell out of Gil Hodges though. Madhoff, steals people blind under "I'm your buddy principals" then gets placed in a "white collar" prison, people like him and Jesse Jackson should be given rock busting details in a regular pen and live in general pop.
Just a completely ridiculous organization that continuously lies to its fans. The father and the idiot son should've been forced to sell the team.
It's a joke. It's not like they don't have to pay back the loan. They just have pushed it further down the line for a while as they still pay the interest on it. It's senseless for them to keep this team while they feed the fans garbage. They made a couple of moves that excited the fans then gave them nothing.
On the other hand I enjoy going to citified once or twice a year as its closer for me to get to from mineola without the bridge and toll hassles and never anybody there and the prices are dirt cheap. Got to see harvey's 2 hit complete game shutout and donnie baseball last year. So I hope they continue to suck for selfish reasons. That being said only a matter of time before someone rents a plane to fly overhead with the wilpons must go signs similar to the 70's what happened at giants stadium. LOL
I'm assuming 2015 through 2019 are Millions without the 3 zeros at the end? If that is the case, it appears they are committed to $7M more for 3 players and a 4th remaining the same as this year, but quite a few are coming off... so $54.05M committed to 4 players ($13.51M/each of the 4) vs. 12 players this year which have $75.4125M committed to them ($6.38M/each of the 12)... So yeah, it's more per each of the 4, BUT more total available to spread out...
...and the arbies?...and Matt Harvey (if he can return)?...and the other players they'll have to sign? ...the point is, if they have hamstrung themselves by committing $54 Mil to 4 players, it does not leave them with a whole of revenue to sign other players and improve the team. ("wiggle room") ...this is almost as bad as what Texas did several years ago when they sign ARod to that ridiculous contract. ... And it's not as if the Mets are in a small market, so there's no justifying the Wilpons trying to fool their fans into thinking their team will be competitive.
I don't dispute they are hamstrung a bit... but they have quite a few spots to fill this year still and far less to go around... that was all I was trying to say...
That would be fun & I might become a fan of theirs.... a legitimate fan (after the Yankees of course)
...yeah, Cuban would make a great Yanx owner...very passionate. ...not sure that the other owners would approve him though.
Curtis's numbers will definitely go down without the benefit of the short right field porch. And without a solid team behind him Colon will be lucky to be a 500 pitcher.
