It doesn't count for offensive basket interference now.

it does seem odd that it is not only legal but advantageous to spike the ball off another players face

You'd be changing the interpretation of who is taking the shot, though.

The player dunking the shot is the one taking it. I'm saying it's worth more if the initiating play originated past the 3pt line.

Let's be glad you're not a rule maker. So you want to penalize hustle? You do that rule and then an out of bounds A1 can't hit it off of B1's back (ala pippen) and then get in bounds and score.

That will never happen. GTFO of the way. I like that you can do it. Why don't you?

Terrible. I hope that never happens. Batum isn't shooting so he shouldn't get 3 points for a pass.

As a ref, I'm good. It requires too much looking toward the basket and not at the players. What happens if the pass is thrown inside of the cylinder?
Policing that would be HELL. Gives us one more thing to do and understand we already have plenty.

Look at the Batum/Lillard gif again. There are 3 refs in the NBA. There is one right there. Seems like one of the easier calls to make. And if they miss it they can also ask for a replay when play stops like they do with current 3pt shots.

That's because you don't know what each referee is supposed to be looking at. That play is and always will be the Trail official's call (furthest away from the basket). He has enough to look at. It will NEVER be the Lead's call (official under the basket). He/she better not EVER even see the rim. Too busy looking at bodies. Again, policing that would be HELL. It would take 2 referees to call that (that will simply never happen) since Lillard is coming from the Center Official's primary area of responsibility.

What he's saying is that each official has something to look at when a shot is going up (whether it be an alley-oop or just a shot). Usually the baseline official is looking at the key (or just below the circle) to see if any activity is going on there. The official nearest the shot at the 3 is supposed to keep his eye on the shooter and the closest defender (Think of Jamal Crawford) although, if you watch some replays, some do not do this.

That leaves the official usually furthest from the play (Scott foster anyone?) to call this.

So the ref can look at a player to tell he's behind the 3pt line when he shoots but not when he throws an alley oop?

The ref is supposed to "stay with the shooter" (the reason why Harden's flop against Wesley was called a foul). Meaning watch him jump and watch him land. Then determine if the 3 is good. It's just too much stuff.

    Referee School 101:

This is each referee's area of responsibility. These change depending on which side the L(ead) is on. The Lead takes the Yellow area.

Now do you understand why Dick Bavetta FUCKED UP here? After Harden shoots the 1st shot, Dick is supposed to get his
LAZY, OLD ASS ACROSS THE KEY. He's calling out of his area! The area where Blake/Harden are is the C's responsibility!
He even "position adjusts" (because he knows Dick's lazy ass isn't in position) and passes on calling anything.
Dick (one of the most arrogant officials in history) breaks the rule that HE would set if he were your crew chief "DON'T CALL IN MY AREA".

I like the idea of 4 point line but only because it gives lillard an advantage over the rest of the NBA . I'm fine with taking it away if we lose him.
