The odds of signing 3 solid FA is slim but capwise it could work. I added Niskanen as an insurance policy of Girardi leaving(fingers crossed ). Put Hagelin and Miller together on the 4th line. It's a better top 6 than this year for sure. Interesting take on things by Capgeek but I see a few inconsistencies. Stastny is making $6.6 this year so I would think he's looking for Richards/Nash money, not to say the Rangers wouldn't be interested but it's going to be a big nut for one player, perhaps the money could be spent more wisely. Glen has been in the habit of throwing money bags at the top free agents on the market but I don't know if I'd go that route with Stastny. Callahan does not deserve a $1.5 mil pay raise, he's barely worth $4.275. I don't know what kind of offers he'll get from other teams but I wouldn't give him more than $4.5. I would think Glen will give Kreider more in the $3 mil range to be consistent with Stepan, he will definitely want more than $2 mil. Capgeek is dreaming if they think Girardi would be content with $4.75, he's going to get ridiculous offers more in the $6 mil range, whether the Rangers match is debatable. Unfortunately the same will ring true with Stralman though his number will be nowhere as high as Girardi's free agent dmen get paid in today's NHL.
I think Callahan will get a 1m raise, especially being the captain, but i certainly wouldn't go past 6. I don't see him getting that much anywhere. I do think he'll rebound a bit next year. You may be right about Kreider getting 3 with his potential and year he's having. Stastny i don't see breaking 7 with the year he's having. Vrbata would be a very important signing.
They way Lindberg, Miller and Fast are playing in the AHL and how the team is going now, I am leaning towards the Rangers signing nobody. Especially if they were stupid enough to offer Callahan 6 million. To me, that means they will buy out Richards. Hopefully, not bring back Callahan at 6 million. Let's say they do the Stewart deal and get back a first. Let Moore and Boyle go. Play Miller, Lindberg and Fast. Let Stralman go and bring up McIlrath. Definitely sign Brassard and Pouliot. Can't believe I'm saying this but if they do the Stewart deal, bring back Carcillo who has played amazing well here, trade Dorsett who is on the books next year for 2 million for a cheap, veteran, right handed 6th defenseman in case McIlrath gets hurt. Stralman will get too much money elsewhere. Team is deep and tougher. Nash-Stepan-Kreider Pouliot-Brassard-Zucc Stewart-Miller-Carcillo Hagelin-Lindberg-Fast You really don't have a 4th line. I've been thinking about that all Swede line for 2 years now. Stewart can play on the PP and stand in front. Let Brassard take Richards spot on the point. Brassard has a really good slap shot. He just doesn't use it enough. Girardi-McDonagh Staal-Klein J. Moore-McIlrath
I see you still can't read. I said there is no 4th line. Therefore, if you could put it together, there isn't a 3rd line either. It's really which of the two lines is going better to determine who would be your third line. Perhaps I should give you a road map to follow posts.
Dump, there is no shot at that happening. The Rangers will sign players. The cap is going up to 70 mill. The team you wrote is no where near the cap. Like WAY under the cap. That is not the NY Rangers. In addition you say "to me that means they will buy out Richards". Richards is 1000000000000000000000000% being bought out. Nothing will change that aside from injury. They have no choice but to do it given his contract and the penalties in the CBA. I do think Lindberg and/or Fast could be on the team, but they will bolster the first two lines with some vet proven scoring. There is NO shot they have 13 goal Pouliot and 4 goal Carcillo on the 2nd and 3rd lines. Just no way. And if Miller, Lindberg, and Fast aren't really ready it is season over. I can safely say there is no shot the Rangers go this route and have a 60 mill payroll against a 70 mill cap.
Dump this is putting a ton of faith in guys who really havent shown all that much at the NHL level yet. I can't see them taking this route. I think your C depth might end up being pretty accurate, but I'm almost positive there will be a scoring wing brought in. And I don't expect Pouliot back. He's a nice player but a better goal scorer could be much more productive in that spot with Zucc and Brassard Kreider-Stepan-Nash FA (Vrbata? Moulson?) - Brassard - Zucc Hagelin-Miller-Callahan/Stewart Boyle (I bring him back) - Lindberg - Dorsett That's my guess at next year. Agree with the D pairs.
One more thing about Lindberg...he's never really struck me as a 4th line C kind of guy. Defense is not his strong suit. Maybe he's been working on it down there but from what I've seen of him and read about him he doesn't fit the mold of a 4th line C. If Miller is making the team and Brassard is brought back maybe they look to move him and sign a guy like Steve Ott for the 4th
I think theyre going to make a run at Stastny, and they definately could use a forward like Vrbata. I'd use Miller in a 4th line role with Carcillo and maybe even bump Hagelin there. Lindberg or Kristo may be the extra going into the season. Fast could end up as trade bait.
The UFA group this year absolutely sucks. The days of good UFA are over. People on this board need to wake up to that. Teams lock their young, top players up. The only real UFA's out there are bad investments. 1. There is no way Pouliot isn't brought back. He'll be reasonable to sign. Brassard and Zucc love playing with him. That line has excellent chemistry. You don't screw the line up by not bringing back a guy who probably will take 3 y contract at 2 million. 2. Zucc is probably going to get 4 Y, 16 million. Sather won't be stupid on Kreider. If he has a monster year next season, he won't want to face him being a RFA in another year if he only offers him a 2 year deal. I suspect he will go 4 y, 12 million for Kreider. If Moore continues to play better and better on the left side, he will get 3 years, 7 million or close to that. Girardi is going to get 6 years, 34 million or close to that. Brassard will probably get 3 years, 12 million. Pouliot 3 years, 6 million. 3. You don't go spend money on crap just to spend money. You don't push up against the cap when it doesn't make your team better. The UFA's out there suck IMO. They aren't much better than NHL prospects we have that are close to NHL ready. 4. There is no way Lindberg and Fast will be dealt or not on this team next year. You don't trade prospects that are close to NHL ready who are cheap because you want to spend 6 million a year for a player like Stastny when he isn't a significant upgrade over Stepan or Brassard. It's stupid. You want to leave yourself 10 million in cap room so if there is ever a case when the Oilers have to unload a top young player under 25, you can acquire him and offer that player a 7 million a year deal. Not some tool in UFA.
I hear you on a lot of what you said, but the Rangers will add a scoring forward. I just see no way they start the season with Carcillo, Miller, Lindberg, Fast, Pouliot making up nearly 1/2 the forwards. No shot man. They will add at least one big scoring FA forward, or deal for one.
Stastny may not be a huge upgrade, but he's better than both and they need someone who at least resembles a #1. Plus that would be great depth down the middle for the next 3-4 years. They won't leave 10m in cap space hanging, they need to maximize the roster while Lundqvist and Nash are in their prime. They can integrate a prospect or two as they go as well.
i still don't get the whole girardi thing, for months i have benn hearing many ranger fans wanting him gone, up till about the last 5 games or so i see the sentiment somewhat change because he has been playing better, ok thats normal!! but the money,, 5 mill? is that the going rate? is he dman we want, or is he a vet on the team we want to remain? or is there no one out there better?
If they bring back Brassard (which is looking more and more likely), there is no reason to go after Stasny. They have not been developing Miller to be a 4th line C. Stasny's money can be used elsewhere, like on a scoring wing to take pressure off Nash
I agree Miller is not a 4th liner long term, but for next year i think he would fit well as he gets used to a FT role. I don't think they should bring Boyle back.
Some of our fans haven't realized that this coach actually KEEPS LINES together. If they play well and develop chemistry, he isn't going to want to get rid of those players if they aren't that expensive. That is stupid which is why Pouliot will be back here.
I'm the one who keeps saying let Pouliot walk so I assume this is directed at me. I realize AV keeps lines together. Thank god we finally have a coach who does that. It's the reason why I think Brassard is now a no brainer to be brought back, and will be kept with Zucc. Those two have the chemistry. Pouliot to me looks like he is along for the ride. Not ripping him but putting somebody else there with more of a scoring touch could make Zucc and Brassard even more effective. Zucc and Brassard are amazing playmakers. Yet Pouliot has managed 4 even strength goals this year. Four. If they don't target Stasny and can afford to put a better scorer there, why wouldn't that be a good move to make?
