Just how bad is our bench this year?

    Current rankings of Bench production

    Points – 29th
    Rebounds – 27th
    Assists – 12th!!!
    Steals – 30th
    Blocks – 30th
    FG % – 25th
    Off Eff – 29th
    Def Eff – 25th

And our "best" bench player Mo Williams currently has a PER of 11.81. Raymond Felton's is 12.23.

I really want to hold onto homecourt advantage in the first round, but it's going to be tough with the Blazers' extreme reliance on our starters.

So, I'm going to actually help your case a little bit... you're wrong on a couple of these.

We're actually last in blocks as a bench (1.0)

Steals we're actually last as well.

    FG% we're actually 25th.

Everything else is pretty much right.

    http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fantasy/nba/teamstats/14/7/reb/1-1

    Compared to last year:

    Last in pts (18.5)
    Last in reb (10.5)
29th in asts (4.5, IND was last with 4.2)
28th in stls (ahead of IND and LAL)

You can look up the rest of the stats there. It is surprising how bad Indiana's bench was last year and they made it to game 7 against the Heat.

Ha! Last year's bench was historically bad, so anything would be an improvement. Looking at the numbers it's a small wonder we won as many games as we did last year.

    Here you go

As an avg for the team, Nic leads it with 1.0 steals.

Is that like the basketball equivalent of an asterisk in baseball for steroids?

anyone know how they figure "min"? (minutes??)

the blazers being dead last at 13.6 might go a long way towards explaining them being near the bottom in most of the counting stats

also they are 11th in 3pt fg%, so claiming them 25th might be a little misleading, their efg and ts% is likely more middle of the pack

and i noticed indiana has a similar bench to the blazers statistically, not sure if there is anything to it, i wonder if their fans continually lament the fact though

Bottom of the barrel in everything but assists. I presume that's because our 'bench' players are on the court with starters, who are still our primary scorers when the bench players are in?

I took a quick gander at their main board with the most activity, and not really anything about their bench.

Even on a per 48 basis the Blazers' bench production is bottom third of the NBA in most of those statistics. Here are the Hollinger PER rankings (ESPN Insider) of our bench on an individual basis:

    Mo Williams - 11.81
    C.J. - 7.75
    Robinson - 14.74
    Freeland - 11.10
    Wright - 9.58
    Leonard - 11.20

One thing that was interesting is how much of drop off both Williams and Wright had when compared to last year.

We don't have a traditional second unit. We always have a starter in there and that player is the first option. What is the plus minus of our bench players?

I'm pretty sure it's the norm to always have a starter in there with the second unit now in the NBA.

I'm just tickled that the mods have to defend the blazers against the "fan" in that forum.

Also, he missed the corrections from the post he stole.
