who should be the final cut?I'm going with the obvious choice brian scalabrine. but I doubt they will cut him.
They aren't going to cut Scal. He's under contract for 4 more years (including this year), he's not going to be released. I do, however, beleive he will be packaged in a trade by next season. If I had to make a guess on who is going to be cut, I think it will be either Luke Jackson or Allan Ray. Powe has pretty much locked himself up a spot on the roster at this point, and O has been playing real well all camp. We will especially need O for center depth when Theo is out (eh hem.. like right now!). This final spot is between Allan Ray and Luke Jackson, and I really can't say who yet. I want to see them play a little bit more first. They are both shooters, but like Doc said after the game today - Ray can do other things and translate to the PG spot as well. But who knows? We already have Delonte, Bassy, Rajon, and TA. I have no idea who will get the nod, it's going to be a battle. It's just too close to tell, plus we havn't seen much of Jackson, but from the little we have seen he's shot the lights out from deep and he's hustled. If I remember, I will definitely make an educated guess after the next preseason game. I really need to see a little more Jackson. Ray has proven that he's a shooter, but he's been a bit inconsistant. On the other hand, Jackson has been shooting well, but he runs like a 36 year old man. So I don't know yet.
I think Ray will be the one who is cut, due to Jackson having a little bit of experience, not to metnion alot of size, on Ray.
I would probably go with Ray as well. Jackson is a GREAT shooter and the celtics already have guys like Ray, just better. Jackson brings something different. I hope that he gets healthy.
I think we should cut Michael Olowokandi, I just know he won't give us much production during the regular season. If not Kandi Man, then Luke Jackson. Once Allen Ray gets confidence in himself, and I think a trip to the NBDL will give him that, I think he could be a guy that could come in and knock down those 3's for us. You also can't forget about Jackson's injuries. For all we know he could hurt his back two days into the season.
The only reason why they won't cut Michael Olowokandi gocelts34 is because of his size and the fact that you have to take in account the fact that Theo Ratliff will miss atleast 20 games this season. They need a backup center when that happens and Kandi isn't really that horrible of an option for a third man. He has great size but offensively and any type of decision making he just has no clue what to do. He'll grab some boards for the Celts.... that's pretty much it.
good point. we're going to need as much size as we can get. with all the great guard-play we have, I'd rather have a decent Center than a decent combo guard.
My guess is Ray. There really isn't room for him. Jackson on the other hand is just as good of a shooter and has good size. There would really be no minutes at all for Ray where as I could see Luke snagging about 10 mpg. Ray is behind West, Telfair, Rondo, Allen and not to mention Pierce. Jackson is really a 3, so he is behind Wally and Green. If Scals can get 13 mpg I think Jackson can get 10 mpg. I hope they keep Jackson and he stays healthy and shows the Cavs weren't stupid to take him 10th overall. 21,7,5 as a senior!

Scal is going to be a good player, give him a chance. :HAHAHA: Just kidding. I have to agree that Scal has the least amount of basketball skills on the roster. I would definitely put Powe ahead of him on the depth chart. I think Scal SHOULD be on the IR list, but he won't because Doc is an idiot with things like that. He will keep him active and have him eat into Powe, Big Al, and even Gerald's time, just because he has that "veteran" tag. You know what, Doc? I don't care if a guy has 7 rings and is a 13 year vet, if he's lacking talent like Scal, he should not be on the court. EDIT: typos :ranting:
It could be Jackson to get cut though. Doc wants young guys to develope around Paul Pierce. And Ray could be a future PP shooter in the future if he gains more expierence.

Also, let's not forget that 2 years ago Jackson was a lotto pick. Ray would never be a lottery pick in any draft. Jackson just got off to a bad start with 2 back surgeries and a broken wrist. If he can bounce back to his senior year in college form, then build off that, he's going to be a pretty solid player in this league. Even with that said though, it's not going to be an easy decision between Luke and Ray. As I list good things about Jackson, it's only fair to write the strengths Ray has over Jackson: quickness, ballhandling, passing, and ability to play the PG position. I really like both of these guys, and I think both can develope into pretty solid players in the future, but it's very tough to choose. But, given the facts and the look of our roster, I think I would take Jackson at this point. We already have Delonte, Bassy, Rondo, and Tony Allen. There is no room for Ray, we are stacked with small guards. It's hard enough trying to get them all playing time. At least Jackson adds some size and adds another SF capable player to the roster, while Ray is a little undersized for the 2-guard in the NBA. I wouldn't be mad if we picked Jackson, I wouldn't be mad if Ray was the choice either. But as of right now, I am leaning towards keeping Jackson.
