I prefer Rock over Rap but I don't think you can say one is better then the other. It's just my preference.
This could go on forever... oh boy.I'm going to say rock is better although I do like both. Rap is entertaining, but really it doesn't take much skill. You talk over a beat. Rock on the other hand is much more deep as far as topics and harder to comprehend musically. Rap to me is very one-dimentional. And today's rap has really gotten bad; I mean most of the topics are just sex, clubs, bitches, etc. Also this is why Rock is better (I brought this up on the other thread but I'm putting it back up so everyone knows):OVER!
I would take rap, but this thread really wont lead anywhere, what music you like is strictly opinion.

Thats stupid pop-rap, if you listen to real authentic rap (which usually never plays on MTV or anything)you will defiently had a different opinion. And the post before that, new rap is just as good as old rap. Believe me, there is no rock song that is better than "Brandas got a Baby" by 2pac. Thats poetry, lyricly kills rock songs. I agree, most of the rap you hear on TV like MTV and BET is pure crap, but just go and pickup a underground CD by Common, SunNY or even some old school 36 mafia and 8Ball & MJG. You will have a different opinion.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TSpark @ Oct 22 2006, 09:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>True, but the post right above yours is going to set some flares soon with the quote "rap doesn't take much skill," because I already sense someone getting ready to object to that statement and a debate will begin of that.</div>yep, I had to say something about that
I'll also take Rock. It takes much more skill (I'm not saying rap doesn't take skill, but it takes being able to rhyme, the rest beat is basically generated by a computer. whereas in rock it is a combination of real instruments, all of which is written by the band. half of rap songs take a melody of another song, and some rappers don't even write their own material. sad), and they actually have something to talk about. They're not just talking about a.) sex b.) getting drunk/high or c.) how much money they have, unlike rap. And I hate how all rappers try to be so gangster. I remember seeing on mtv news a long time ago that a rapper got arrested for holding a gas station up. he got $200. what a moron.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ELiiiTE @ Oct 22 2006, 09:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>This could go on forever... oh boy.I'm going to say rock is better although I do like both. That's probably the reason I like rap, because of the rhymes and well thought out verses of guys like 2Pac.And I don't even look at that MTV crap, I'm not basing it on that. I just think rock is MUCH deeper.

I never watch tv nowadays. I admit, I don't know of a whole lot of underground rappers, but the one's that I've heard, it's just not my sound. I'm not impressed by how much money a person has or how many people they've killed.

It takes a little digging and discovering to find "real" rap. Real rap and commercial rap is very different and if you listen to the real stuff you will find that out.

I just relate to rap more than rock. I guess thats why I htink its better, but like I said earlier people have different opinions, just dont bad mouth rap because you havent heard REAL hip-hop.

I like music that makes you think, so if a band puts alot of allusions/symbols in their songs, I tend to like those bands.
