I'd only look to protect VC, JKidd, RJ & Nenad. The rest can leave for all I care. An expansion draft wouldn't be such a bad idea, anyway. Teams could start off fresh...

QUOTE (nba dogmatist @ Oct 23 2006, 12:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

forgetting wallyworld? [IMG]
Not at all. In the expansion drafts, you don't necessarily go by the top 8 players. If you have a guy like Wally, Theo, or like Eddie Jones - you don't protect them and you don't protect them in the expansion draft. They won't get picked up because of those contracts, so you protect the young potential players - not the overpaid vets. If a team is starting from scratch, they are NOT going to start with Wally, Theo, or Eddie Jones. They aren't going to pick up a contract like that, they are going to pick guys with very small contracts and build through the draft, just like Charlotte did.So, in conclusion, if you don't protect Gerald Green you are on crack. You don't protect Wally, and you will still get him back because the expansion team would not pick him under any circumstances.

MeloAndreJRDiawara (from what I have heard he is a beast)CambyNeneEvansKleizaEarl Boykins and KMart aren't needed. Boykins is overrated and dribbles the ball around and then hucks up a shot when the shot clock runs out and KMart is an injury prone distraction. DeMarr is an ok backup who isn't going to get that much better.

Also, How do you keep Kleiza over Najera.

I knew I forgot somebody! So, here's my list of players I would try to keep:1) JKidd: Still one of the best PGs in the world; he's also barely year older than Steve Nash, isn't he?2) VC: Great swingman. He also helped a falling Nets return to playoff status.3) RJ: A very good third option; he can be used as second option behind VC at times, too.4) Nenad Krstic: He's improving. I think he'll average 20 and 10 soon... Any season now, Krstic, any season now.5) Marcus Williams: If JKidd decides to retire after this season, Marcus will have learned how to play "Better Basketball" from JKidd, like the DVD.6) Eddie House: Nothing special, but he's a good player off the bench.7) Josh Boone: Never know potential; he's injured, so I dunno...8) Jason Collins: If anything, Collins is a great defensive-minded player. He sucks on the offensive end, but his D makes up for the lack of O.

If you don't protect a player for an expansion draft, and the expansion team doesn't take them, you still get them back. Kenyon Martin and Earl Boykins would not be picked up.EDIT: I think it was smart having LK on that list and not Najera, because Najera wouldn't get picked up and LK has some potential in him.

For the Mavericks1.Dirk Nowitzki2.Jason Terry3.Josh Howard4.Devin Harris5.Maurice Ager6.DeSagana Diop7.Anthony Johnson8.DJ MbengaThis would leave:Erick DampierJerry StackhouseDevean GeorgeGreg BucknerPops Mensah-PonsuJJ BareaAustin CroshereNdudi Ebi The chances of the team picking Dampier, Stackhouse, Croshere, George, and Buckner would be a very small one. Dampier, Stackhouse, and Croshere have kind of big contracts while George and Buckner are just role players that don't have any great quality. Even if oen fo them got picked, They could be replaced quite easily. I also don't think an expansion team can pick more than 2 players from one team as well. I'm guessing Pops, Barea, and Ebi would have a greater chance of being picked, but really wouldnt change the face of the team since they are the 14 and 15 spots on the team.
