Exactly my point. These players have more energy for their National
    teams than the NHL.
Playing in the NHL is a job......very little inspiration.

Nice start for the US against an apparently overmatched Slovakia. Perhaps a wake up call to Stepan who was a healthy scratch? I like Olympic hockey's wide open offense with no interference and goalies allowed to play the puck, would be fine with me if they went back to amateurs next Olympics.

Stepan might not see any time unless its a meaningless game. Stastny is on another level i don't get when people say theyre equals. Hopefully they make a run at him in FA

The numbers don't lie. Stastny is not any more productive than Stepan the past 2 years. No reason to give him this idiotic contract when you have Stepan and Brassard and Miller is averaging over a PPG in the AHL. Just because Miller did get points right away in the NHL is no reason to give up on him. It was obvious to me he's going to be a really good pro. Just needs a little confidence.

Not to mention 71, Stepan was a totally superior player to Stastny last year. It wasn't close. Stepan to me came in out of shape, sulking about not getting a contract yet. He looks like it.

Nobody's giving up on Miller, it's more about needing a true #1c to play with Nash. Stepan and Brassard would give them a real good 2/3. It's true Stepan may be out of shape but i just don't think he has the same ability level Stastny does. You watch Dump, theyre going to go after him with the cap space in FA. Miller then could be used as a wing where he'd be better i think.

Unbelieveable Al, First off, I can't believe they waved off the 3rd Russian goal because the goal was an inch (at the most) off it's mooring. If that had happened to the USA, I would have been upset, but since it was Russia ... Rules are Rules :-)

As for the shootout, I was expecting Kane to be in the first 3. Really surprised by the choices. Surprised even more that you can continue to send the same player out continuously.

From the little I saw of this game, the U.S. is too slow. They would have been much better off putting Okposo and Kreider on the team instead of Wheeler and Brown. Brown just sucks this year.

They didn't look slow to me, the Russians just looked a hell of a lot faster. Because of that Russian speed, the Americans defense never really committed to the offensive flow of the game. They stayed back, to prevent any sort of Russian odd man rush.

I saw the first period and some of the second. I agree that Kreider and Okposo would be the better choices. Cant believe Blake freaking Wheeler is on the team over Kreider.

If they didn't look slow to you, you must have been looking at the inside of your ass. They were painfully slow. You have to build a team based off of the game that is played. In the Olympics which I still don't care about, it's all about speed. Leaving Kreider and Okposo off in favor of Brown and Wheeler was just dumb. Hopefully this worthless crap will be over soon.

Good comeback dump, I wouldn't expect anything less from you. Of course I never expect anything more, but that's another story. The Americans are not slow, but they are not as fast as the Russians and I'm not sure anybody is. In fact, the Russians are not only FAST, but they can score at will if given the opportunities. So, if the coach doesn't think he can challenge the Russians speed (and they couldn't), he tries to neutralize it by making sure they don't have many opportunities to use it. Which is what they did, and it worked.

Now If the Americans had tried to go up and down the ice with Russia, they would have lost (probably big) and you would have been the first on this board complaining about their style of play. You'd be calling them a bunch of dumb asses for trying to match the Russians speed, when they should have played with more of a defensive philosophy. It was a well coached game, and they won. And as for the selection process, lot's of players are worthy, but they all can't go, so get over it.

Great game. Can't believe freakin nbc couldn't put this game on the main channel instead of one of their backchannels so we could watch cartoons on channel 4. They suck at this. Give me back channel 7. Fun game to watch. If that russian 3rd goal that should have counted ended up fucking them in the gold medal game instead of this one would have been payback for that basketball abortion in 1972 when they had as many opportunities as they needed till they won the game. Agree with you guys that kreids and okposo should be on this team and would have upgraded them a lot. Stepan as out of shape as he is this year will be lucky to see the olympic ice and must have pictures of balysma to be on this team this year. Final 4 should be us, sweden canada and russia unless fins upset someone and should be 3 great games to look forward to. Agree Al that shootout rules make no sense and after first 3 same guy can take every shot WTF. Putin right now lining up the guy responsible for that goalpost coming off the mooring causing russia the game in front of a firing squad. Don't know about you guys but I really like the larger ice surface as it opens up the game more especially with the sizes of some of these guys today and wouldn't mind seeing the nhl adopt this.

Another good win against Slovenia, 3-0 sweep of their bracket while Russia squeaked by Slovakia in a shootout. Agree Stepan will be a spectator hope it motivates him if it hasn't embarrassed him. Full Russia/USA game being rebroadcast today at 4:30.
