The NBA is considering the extension of the All-Star break to allow rest time for the players who participate in the weekend's events. Adam Silver has spoken to stars such as Chris Paul, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade about a potentially longer break. “I definitely think it’s something that should happen,” Paul said. “Obviously All-Star Weekend is all about the fans and showcasing our game to the entire world, but it would be nice to get a little break. Not saying the all stars are unhappy or ungrateful for being all stars, but to enjoy your family for a couple days would be nice.” Added Silver: “I said, ‘We’d be happy to look into it.' The notion is that, in addition to the All-Star Game and the events itself, there would be a break built into the schedule. Maybe we could resume play on Thursday night, later in the week, to insure that the All-Stars got time off as well.”
I think it'd be a good idea to let all-stars get some extra rest. Dame could suffer a little bit this year from doing so much.
Portland doesn't play again until Wednesday, though. I think we'll be plenty rested this year, regardless.
I think an extra day for sure so the travel is not such as hassle. For a team like Portland that played late on Wednesday night, make Thursday a travel day, 4 days to relax (Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon) make Tuesday a travel day, Wednesday a practice day, Thursday a game day. It will still suck for those who play in the game. Their family will just have to be with them. But a full week off seems reasonable.
Dame was already in suffer mode. I get why he did it and its fine. He should experience it. But this should also be the last year for it. It needs to be about winning basketball games and ultimately the championshp.
