I have to say that for some reason all off season Santana has been mentioned as a possibility for the Yankees and it does surprise me. They really must not trust their internal 5th starter candidates or Nova?

Or at least the reporters think the Yankees don't trust the 5th starter...

I don't want another high priced pitcher here. Need to give pineda or phelps a shot and hopefully during the season banuelos will be ready

Yeah, but if they can't handle it or aren't good enough... then what?

Hammer, our kids have to get a shot sooner or later to sink or swim. A number 5 rookie pitcher should not kill us and there are at least 3 of them they can use in that spot. Phelps pitched good for us last year as did nuno and pineda was good enough to cost us montero. And banuelos has been the next best thing since canned beer for seemingly ever. Give the kids the ball

I agree, give one of the kids a shot at the 5th spot & use the money for better use.

...I agree whole heartedly...I mean we're talking about a #5 here...we don't have to have an All-Star at every position. Besides, many people claim that the Yanx don't give the youngsters a fair opportunity...well, this is the perfect opportunity.
...I'm sure any of them could match what Phil Hughes brought to the table last year.

Did anyone consider that they may be putting a deal together for Troy T. Maybe a Nova, Pineda, Gardner, Nunez package thus leaving us short innings? If they sign Santana there is a trade in the works.

I'm kind of hoping that's not going to happen. He's due around 145M over the next 7 years & he's missed over 150 games over the last 2 years. And hasn't played 150+ games since 2009. I hate sounding redundant but I'd still rather go with someone like Lowrie. JMO.

...actually, that did cross my mind...and specifically to acquire Tulo...and his salary doesn't bother me at all especially since this is Jeter's last year and his salary will be coming off the books... and while I like Lowrie, Tulo is the best SS in the game

I also did not consider this option. I think the only way they sign santana is if they were trading someone or plural someones. I sure would miss watching Nunez helmet fall off every time he ran the bases.

Yeah. That and when nunez plays shortstop they don't have to put up the nunez net behind the first base area to protect the fans anymore.

He's too up and down and is liable to give you another 5.00+ ERA season. Phelps and Pineda are fine in that spot unless they're worried about others in the rotation.

Tulo has averaged 115 games in the last 6 seasons, with a big price tag (and a chronic back problem?).
And the experts talk about Ellsbury's injury problems? lmao
I wouldn't give up too much for Tulo and if Pineda is anywhere close to being where he used to be - there's NO WAY I make that deal....no way.
