Just finished watching it myself. Kind of makes it final now. Looking forward to a GOOD season. Like I said I'd be okay with 250-260. I remember watching my favorite Yankee go out hitting in the 230s so I hope it doesn't come to that.
Knew this day was coming sooner than later. I always had a feeling that Jeter was NOT going to be the type of player who hung around a few years being a shell of himself (performance wise).....but.... ...during the conference, he mentioned more than once that he feels fine physically and his ankle was healed at the end of last season...but the muscles around the ankle and his leg were weakened (from lack of use) - and that's why he suffered those two setbacks when he was trying to return from the broken ankle. He just feels it's time to go. He was asked how he would like to be remembered - he thought for a moment, and said: "being a Yankee, once you're a Yankee, you're always a Yankee...being a Yankee is good enough". I can still see him running the bases as a youngster...one of the absolute best baserunners I've ever seen, not to mention his other skills. And don't forget his dedication and hard work. I'd trust him with my life on the basepaths, lol Derek Jeter is a credit to the Yankees, baseball, sportsmanship and the human race. I love the man. I am NOT going to choke up until I see his final walk off the field. GO YANKS.
How many big hits, how many big plays, has this man made for the Yankees, but it was something said on MLB before the conference and when I heard it I went wow, I never thought of that. It was when Jeter announced through Facebook his intentions of retiring that became the last moment the media wrote about Arod. So just like the flip in Oakland, the dive into the stands against the Red Soxs, and so many other plays that spared us from defeat, Jeter spared us from hearing Arod's name for which I am thankful...
The last Subway Series -- 2000, Yanks had ALL THE PRESSURE ON THEM vs the Mets to the point where I heard Torre and other Yankee players say it almost got to the point where it was no fun because at that point (2000), the Yanks were already established as being Dynastic and a defeat to the cross town rival Mets ( who were making their first W.S. appearance in decades) would be a bit too much... MVP of that series ---> Derek Jeter
Here's another look into what kind of player Jeter has been. World Series: 38 G, 156 AB, .321 ba, .384 obp, .449 slg% <--- all higher than his career numbers.
