90% done..one for one with maybe a prospect..a forward from an EC team..not involving RC or Doperardi..not involving Nash HL Stepan or Staal..hopefully not Mac or CK..says some fans will and wont like it..not Moulson or anyone on Columbus

I sure hope and cant imagine McD or Kreider being dealt and nobody would take Richards so who else could it be? He apparently knew about the Klein deal ahead of time so maybe this has legs.

If it's its a playoff team and its most likely not NJ Philly Pitt or Columbus that leaves any of Toronto Detroit Ott or TB.

God, I'll be pissed if its kreider but if it is he better bring back more than another player and a prospect. Man, they can trade anyone but kreids, Mcd or hank and I'll get over it. One of those 3 #@#$$#$

Looks like it is involving Callahan as he said its all about $$. Everyone has known this was possible so he's not exactly breaking anything other than its almost done. We'll see what theyre getting back, hopefully a decent pick with the player. Im a little surprised theyd deal him to an EC playoff team if true.

Buzz: Boomer Esiason indicates that something is going to happen and it could be big
    February 22nd, 2014 10:09 pm

Esiason is a big Rangers fan who in 2011 broke the news that Sean Avery was being recalled.

He also seemed to know about the Kevin Klein deal before it happened.

Esiason then fielded questions on twitter about what he tweeted and indicated the following things:

His feeling is that Ryan Callahan will be traded
His feeling is that only one of Callahan and Girardi will be traded
“if it goes through it will be nuts around here.”
He thinks that Pitt will acquire Chris Stewart
The team is in the East
It’s 90% and works for both teams
Could be a 1 for 1 trade with potentially a conditional draft pick
    It’s a forward
His sense is that fans would not be happy initially
Callahan will be going as a rental player
The trade doesn’t involve Stepan, Nash, Staal or Lundqvist
The deal makes the Rangers look like both sellers and buyers
It is not Callahan for Stewart
It is not for Matt Moulson
He has “major” respect for the player coming back
    It is not Colorado
It is not for Brandon Dubinsky

I'll throw some ideas out there.

Eriksson and a prospect for Callahan. He's had concussion issues and has done nothing in Boston.

Dave Bolland and a prospect from Toronto. He's back in practice now. I loved Bolland on the Blackhawks. He brings a lot of what Cally did.

I wouldn't rule out Clarkson. He has 6 years on his contract at a cap hit of 5.25. I would much rather get Bolland who is 2 years younger, is a UFA and sign him to a new 4 year deal. I have always wanted Bolland on the Rangers.

    I hope it isn't Chimera. I like him as a player but he's 34.

Im thinking its Montreal, Max Pacioretty name has popped up before. would be a good fit. maybe a bobby ryan(unlikely) I could see boston sending Lucic, Marchand or Eriksson they are heavy at LW. Its all speculation, but Its gotta be Callahan since he played a card that clearly states he wants out.

Bolland is very possible, i was thinking Macarthur maybe too. If it's Detroit maybe Abdelkader.

If it is that close we may hear something by tomorrow or worst case Tuesday. Doubt they want Cally playing on Thursday if a deal is almost done.

Assuming we get back a solid player, it is the right move IMO. Cally cannot get a monster deal from us. Something in the 5's I would do, but 6 + is simply too much for him.

I would think we'll re-sign Girardi in the next 10 days as well especially if we deal Cally. I am sure it would happen before the trade DL on March 5th.

I hope we make another deal as well to add another scorer. That need went up even a little more with MZA out for 7-9 games or so, that's maybe 30%-40% of our remaining games, depending on how many games he actually misses.

Interesting question, who becomes captain? Do they name someone ASAP or do we finish with 3 A's this season, Richards, Girardi, and Staal. Very interesting question. Would they make Staal captain?

I bet Staal gets the captaincy. With Zuccs injury i wonder if they also make a minor deal or call someone up.

Cally will be 29 in a month. He plays the style of game that you don't figure would get better with age.

He has scored 25 + goals once. He has had 50 + points once (both in the same season).

He has played 80 + games once in his career.

His normal numbers to me are 22-25 goals. 48 points +/-. I don't see how that is worth 6.5 mill per season on a 5 or 6 year deal. I just don't see it. I think going into the mid 5's would be okay because he is our captain and does add an element to the team with his grit and hard play.

To me Sather is making the right move, even if it blows up on us in the short term. Long term to me it is the smart move.

As for the team as a whole, assuming we deal Cally, I am concerned in the short term. No MZA. Our leader dealt. Scoring will become even more difficult. I think we need to get back a solid NHL player who can score some goals for Cally. Then I think we need to make another DL deal to add some scoring. I would be down if the only thing Sather does is deal Cally. He needs to be working on adding another scorer regardless of the Cally deal, double so with MZA out.

I hope I am very wrong, but I have a bad feel coming out of this break. Hank has played a lot. We get right into it with the Hawks, at the Flyers, Boston on a back to back, Toronto, at Carolina, Detroit, at Carolina, at Minny, at Peg, and SJ. That is a VERY tough start after the break. No MZA. Cally maybe gone. Two sets of back to back games, which means no Hank most likely (I am sure Talbot plays at Philly next Saturday a game I will be at).

I just have a bad feeling. I really hope I am wrong.

If they can simply get a solid 3rd liner who's signed for a few years that would be good going forward. Maybe a decent pick thrown in.

Clarkson was one of the few Devils I liked. His contract sucks but I think he helps us match up better against Boston and Pitt. Hope it is Bollland though.

I cannot see it being Clarkson with that contract and utter lack of production, guy has 4 goals and 10 points.

I think Bolland would be more possible, but the issues I see with him are coming back from injury which makes him risky, and he is a UFA after the season. That is why the Rangers are dealing Cally now so he doesn't walk for nothing. If Bolland was the guy coming back that would be equal to Cally walking for nothing if Bolland leaves.

I think the better bet is Cally gets dealt for a guy with a cap hit in the 4's somewhere who is signed for another year at least. We'll see.

If cally is traded, and I am all for it if the reports are correct that he wants north of 6.5 per year, I would think girardi should be captain.

Agreed Al. Just no way you can give Cally 6 mill + for 5 or 6 years IMO. That would be a crusher of a deal as we move forward. He simpy is not that type of player.

As for Girardi, if he re-signs by the trade DL, which I expect to happen, it is possible. Look at it this way.

Richards is gone this summer, so it won't be him.
Staal has had some injury concerns, and only has one year left on his deal.
McDonagh needs to put some more time in and wear an A first IMO.
And I don't see them making Nash captain.

So if Girardi re-signs for 4 or 5 years, I think he could be captain, wouldn't shock me.

My guess is we don't name a captain this season, or at least we wait a few weeks before naming one. Let Richards, Staal, and Girardi wear the A's for the time being.
