If this goes thru, we will need to add a winger with some size in the worst way

We agree dis and Prod. Great for us. No clue why TB would do that deal.

Even if they could re-sign Cally, as dis said is it a good deal to bring him back for 5 + years and 6 mill + per? No way IMO.

That's why I think its a Ruutu because Cally's value has been greatly diminished because of his idiotic contract demands.

We all think paying a guy who will likely get WORSE due to his style of play that contract is idiotic, other GMs have to as well. it's one thing if TB needs to get him now but why unload your Captain who is signed for a chance to give a 3rd liner a 6.5 cap hit for 7 years.

Ruutu makes more sense and this board will be in full meltdown

It would be worth it to just keep Callahan and let him go as a UFA than trade him for Ruutu... How does this make the team better?

We agree dis, but a lot of people think Boomer is talking about MSL. Maybe him and Stevie Y had issues after the snub? Maybe he wants to be dealt, and TB wants to add a grit player/leader like Cally? Who knows. But many think he is speaking of MSL.

Not sure why any Ranger fan would be down about this, but I guess some like dump would, so Boomer's tweet could make sense on that front as well.

All I know is the next 2 seasons are the focus for us. MSL led the NHL in scoring last season. Is on pace for 35 and 80 this season. Is signed for next season. Could clearly come back the following season or two on an Alfie type deal (Alfie who is older and still playing well mind you). I would no doubt do it.

Wonder if that would make them keep BR this summer...

Chuck that last bit was exactly what I was thinking. Does he only come if BR is going to be around for the next few years?

    Lots of moving parts here....

The Reunited tweet makes me completely change course and gets me 100% more excited about St Louis. Wow

Dump, I know you hate 38 year olds but there is NOTHING not to like here. The guy keeps himself in great shape. He can play 5 more years and probably 2-3 at a high level. We will need more size but this is the type of piece this team needs to really gear up for a playoff run. Especially when we are going to lose our Captain for nothing OR vastly overpay

Zero downside to this deal. Zero

Led the NHL in scoring last season.
On pace for 35 and 80 this season without Stamkos.
Signed for next season under 6 mill cap hit.
I think we can bring him back for two more seasons after that with a deal in the 4's per, maybe low 5's.
AND most importantly Cally will be gone either way considering he wants 6 mil + per for 5 or 6 years on his new deal.

Slam dunk to me, but I see others questioning it as well, so it does fit Boomer's some won't like it comment.

I would do it for sure, then deal for a bigger winger that we'd clearly need to round out the top 9.

If Boomer has any clue what he is talking about, there aren't a whole lot of guys in the East in the Olympics other than St. Louis who might be available.

I've give you a huge reason why St. Louis would do this. They have no interest in putting a 38 year old RW with Stamkos when they have a 20 year old RW in Kucherov who needs to be the new RW of Stamkos. Callahan would fit perfectly on the RW for their second line and they could easily pay him what he wants once they move St. Louis.

For sure Prod, need to deal for size as soon as this deal would be made, but getting a scorer like MSL, great on the PP also, would be huge.

I still say TB doesn't do it until I see it offically done.

Pouliot and his size become much more important

With the way Nash and Kreider have been playing we have some size to offset the midgets.

Adding another big top 9 and bringing in St Louis is a freaking home run

The plus of getting St. Louis is he probably stands a good chance of helping the Rangers get a third scoring line. It also would give them some insurance if Nash got hurt. He could play on the first line with Stepan and Kreider. St. Louis is also a top PP guy and seems to find chemistry with lots of players. He's old but it could be worse. However, I would want the prospect coming back our way. You are talking about a 9 year age differential. So why St. Louis is a far better offensive player, he's still a relic.

MSL for Cally straight up....another steal in Sathers cap. Cally is an average offensive player, good two way players but for what he is asking for...give me a break. Ill take JT Miller and his 4 million dollar less salary and let him get more NHL icetime. MSL for this year and next...yes he is old, but the guy is in great condition and gives us another speedy winger. Now the question is....does Richards stay....wow

I still don't think they keep Richards even with MSL. Hope not. Then add maybe a Stastny or Vrbata and things look pretty good for next year. Boyes or Stempniak might be someone else they can add at the DL for the rest of the year.

I think Richards stays if St Louis comes in. Even w the horrible cap recapture penalty looming. But worry about that in offseason
