“I’m told that it’s 99.9% guaranteed that Ryan Callahan will get traded by the New York Rangers. There are many teams involved in this process. We know that the St. Louis Blues have been the most consistent in showing interest. There is some connection to the Tampa Bay Lightning and some other teams as well.” (Darren Dreger on Insider Trading)

-Callahan’s agent doesn’t think they are asking for anything that they won’t end up getting.

On Dan Girardi, “there is an on-going back and forth on Dan Girardi as well. Many predicted that this deal would be done by now to keep Girardi with the Rangers. If he isn’t signed by March 5th, the trading deadline there is also a 99.9% chance that he gets traded. (Darren Dreger on Insider Trading)

“You are right Darren. There were no talks over the Olympic break between the Rangers and Ryan Callahan. There is on-going dialogue with Girardi. It seems to be a little bit of a difference in term, maybe a little less than $500,000 a year in money but they are working and trying to get that done. (Bob McKenzie on Insider Trading)

    From the Daily News:

Callahan’s agent, Steve Bartlett, told the Daily News on Tuesday morning that in his opinion, the captain’s asking price – which Bartlett would not confirm – is a “discount” from what he believes Callahan would command on the open market if he hit free agency on July 1.
“In my opinion, we are trying to close the gap,” Bartlett said in response to the assumption that Callahan would refuse to move toward the Rangers’ desired price tag. “I’m always keeping the lines of communication open.”

6.75m is a discount? What is he high?

Maybe they can package them both together out to the WC. LA would probably be willing to make a big deal.

To me there is a discount and then there is "not asking for anything he wouldn't get on the open market".

I FULLY believe at least one team will give him 6 mill per + for 5 years...I bet he gets that.

BUT because he can get it doesn't mean we should offer it or it's a smart deal. Plus if he wants to be a Ranger he will take less but fair. Is what it is I guess. Will be over in a week. At this point I think he is gone, and still see Girardi re-signed.

Because 1 or 2 teams would give you that amount of money doesn't make you worth that kind of money across the board. If he gets it, more power to him, and I will be happy for him (and I bet he does as I said). But it would be a dumb deal for the New York Rangers.

I don't even think Vigneault would sweat losing either one if they got younger and found players who'll fit the system going forward. If they can get a few players back who are under 30 and maybe a few decent prospects i wouldn't complain. Sure Girardi eats alot of minutes but that's part of the reason he's wearing down quicker.

I love when soon to be 29 year old players who have never cracked the 55 pt barrier in their careers take the $6.75m "hometown discount" over 7 years

Note: Rangers recalled JT Miller today. Hope Callahan goes to St. Louis.
Rangers should get one of St. Louis' 2014 2nd round picks + WHO?

    If it's Stewart i don't think they would give up a 2nd but maybe a 3rd.

I would take Stewart and a 2nd or 3rd for Cally now.

    He has some size.
On pace for 22 goals this season.
I think has solid 20 goals & 40 points potential every season.
And is signed next season for 4.15 mill.

Not as good as Cally, but the production isn't that far off. Goal wise maybe within 5 or so. Point wise maybe within 8-10 or so. And his cap hit will be 2 mill + lower next season.

He has potential as well. Plus he is only 26 (Cally will be 29 in a month). If we can get worst case a 3rd or a decent prospect back with Stewart, I do it.

Then make one more deal for another scorer and see how the season plays out.

Cally is a lot better them Stewart IMO but Cally will also decline significantly pretty soon. I wouldn't be excited but I would take that deal as well

Agreed, Cally is clearly better, but I'd live with Stewart and a decent 2nd piece for Cally at this point. Just don't see things working here with Cally anymore, he wants too much money.

Stewart is not nearly as bad as people have made him out to be. Faster and way bigger than Callahan, not afraid to drop em and has a little more skill to his game. Not a heart and sole guy like Cally but from a hockey standpoint in AV's system it is not that bad of a deal.

A lot of Ranger fans will not be happy no matter who we get for Callahan.

If they absolutely have to trade Girardi i'd see if maybe a package with RC for Stewart, Jackman 1st and prospect might work. Jackman isnt Girardi but he's decent for another year.

While I like Moulson I dont think Sather is looking to get a rental back for Cally.

granted, Cally was always dependable and always gave me the feeling
as a steady force on the ice. Bottom line........no Cup as Captain and
of late, tons of injuries. Yeah, I will miss his leadership....but 'the team'
needs to move forward and step it up. A new Captain is the right move
as this franchise needs to improve. Sorry Cally, 6+ years is not in the
    cards in NY.

Appreciate what Cally did here but I'm not sad at all he will be gone soon. This stinks of another Drury situation.

2/26/14: 8:02AM: (Darren Dreger on NHL Live)

On Ryan Callahan, “Ryan Callahan seems unlikely even though he is the captain to agree to a contract to stay with the Blueshirts. 99% chance that he is gone. There are many teams in play. Glen Sather is asking a lot for Ryan Callahan.:

On Dan Girardi, “Dan Girardi, the Rangers are still pushing to get him re-signed to keep him away from UFA. My sense is that the Rangers love him and want to keep him. Dan Girardi very much wants to stay with the Rangers so they are just haggling over term and a little bit of money that represents the gap in this negotiation. That being said, Glen Sather is still considering the interest and their remains considerable interest in Dan Girardi. If Girardi isn’t signed by the deadline I am told that there is no chance that the Rangers let him go beyond that without a deal.”
