The other day I received a notice on my computer that read.......

"EFFECTIVE APRIL 8th 2014 MICROSOFT WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT XP"

Having windows XP & being the computer illiterate that I am, short of buying a new computer I have no idea what the hell I'm going to do.

You can keep using it if you want. They just won't send you any more security updates and you can't call them for support.

Or you could buy a Windows upgrade disc from a retailer and jump up to Windows 7 or 8. I think you can download the upgrade also. 8 will be a huge change if you aren't already using tablets or smart phones with it. 7 is pretty easy to use.

Rick....go by a disposable Google chrome book or a goggle tablet. Or apple if you want to overspend.

My guess is that your computer is probably old and not sufficient to run Windows 7. If it is old, it might run 7 but really slow.

id second the notion of getting a tablet, but it all depends on what you use your computer for. are you doing work or just browsing websites?
I am not a fan of windows 8 learning all over again.

Excellent point from Denny. Upgrading an XP system to windows 7 will be painfully slow at best, and your hardware might not support the upgrade.

If you don't need a PC, a tablet or even the windows surface gets you some windows qualities.

Rick, please tell me you have a smartphone. Otherwise we may need to get you some soup cans and a shitloiad of string.

My daughter works for the DOD & I listen to her shit all the time. She just recently got me my 1st cell phone. I'm still trying to figure that damn thing out. My computer is a 12 year old desk top. And I wouldn't know a smart phone from a dumb phone. And no I'm not a neanderthal.

That computer I linked to is $298 at Walmart.

It's certainly good enough for web surfing and holding your music collection. And more. It won't take up as much room as your desktop, as well.

2002 desktop? Wow! Pentium 4, 2GHz or there about. My refrigerator has a more powerful CPU.
