TUALATIN -- On a day when the Trail Blazers received encouraging news on the injury front, the outlook wasn’t as promising for reserve center Joel Freeland.

Freeland, who sprained the MCL in his right knee Feb. 11 against Oklahoma City, said he is still experiencing instability in his knee, which is causing him some frustration.

“I’m feeling OK, still taking it day-by-day. I still don’t have any pain in it, it’s just the fact that it’s still really unstable inside. If I catch my toe or something, I feel the knee open up. I’m just waiting for that to strengthen up, and hopefully I’ll be ready soon. It’s just pretty frustrating at the moment.’’

Freeland, who was a key defensive component on the second unit, said he is limited to running backward, because running forward gives him trouble. He has been wearing a brace on the knee, and has been able to shoot, but his prognosis is nothing like that of LaMarcus Aldridge and Meyers Leonard, both of whom could return from injury Saturday against Denver.

Well crap I was hoping he would at least be practicing a little bit a week or two into march. Hopefully he gets at least 5 or 6 games in before the playoffs because his toughness will be helpful against whoever we get round 1.

He'll be fine just don't rush it like oden and Roy, we have the luxury of not needing him at the moment.

Why can't we get a hardship exception?

Our depth at center has been reduced to nothing. We should be able to pick someone up. This is ridiculous.

because those are usually left to teams that lose players for a whole season, not just portions.

Wouldn't some sort of knee brace be effective for his injury?

to an extent in "normal activity" but we're talking pro Bball with huge knee stress. I've had ligament "strains" and it means they are "stretched" and healing allows them to "retighten" but it can take a few months at least depending upon the severity

Kind of makes you wonder if some of these guys that get injured are more frustrated that they wont be able to get their bonus money? I'm talking about the guys that get bonus money in the contracts if they get so many points, rebounds, assist, ect...

What did I miss? What did he say that would make us wonder that?

I am sure he is frustrated since he was finally getting to play and help the team, but I am not sure why after just 16 days it is news worthy. They did say it would take 4-8 weeks. It hasn't been 3 yet and he says he doesn't feel any pain. Sounds like he is right on schedule.

or it sounds like he's about where everyone expected him to be based on the injury he got.
