let's see what Cally actually signs for before judging whether it's only about money. A 6/36 offer is only $500k more a year than Girardi, who is looked at as a "team guy" b/c he could have gotten more in FA.

Doesn't sound like he is taking that but agree we should let it play out

Kesler got 70 points because he played with the Sedins in his their prime and was on that PP unit. Kesler has had 1 50 point year, 1 40 point year, two 70 point seasons. Those were over 2 1/2 seasons ago. In those seasons he had 26 and 30 of his points on the PP. He is not a 70 point player. He's not a 60 point guy IMO. So trading him for Stepan is dumb.

We will see, agreed 31. My guess is it will be minimum 6 mill per cap hit wise, for 5 or 6 years. If he re-signs for less than that then opinions will change on Cally again. If he signs for a cap hit of 6 mill per or more, I think it shows it was really just about the money for him. But we'll see you are correct. But the second he re-signs for 6 mill or more per I think it shows us what he was all about.

I do not think Cally is even worth a 6 mill cap hit, especially for 5 or 6 years. Ideally he should be in the low to mid 5's tops IMO. But we pretty much know that won't happen. I think Girardi is/was worth more than Cally, and he settled at 5.5 per.

Plus Cally has us IMO. No one will sign him for close to 7 mill per long term, outside of maybe Buffalo. So that means his trade value is that of a rental really. Which means we cannot really get good value, and still have a team that can maybe win a playoff round or two this spring.

It really is a tough spot Cally has put us in I believe. We'll see how it plays out over the next 3 days.

If you look at a player like Weiss, overall he has more points the past 6 years leaving this year out. In the previous 6 seasons Weiss had 317 points on a crap team. Kesler had 306 points on a very good team. You could get Weiss for nothing. Right now you could probably package Boyle and Dorsett for Weiss.

And BTW...I do want to say again I do not begrudge Cally one drop for making it about the money, and trying to get as much as he possibly can. That is 10000000% his right.

All I say is don't also tell me it isn't about the money, and how badly you want to stay a Ranger first and foremost. That is where I call BS for sure.

If they go 6y, which is a little much, maybe they get him to agree for a little less than 6m. Unlikely but that would make it a little more acceptable. 6/34 or something.

Fact: Kessler does not want to come to the Rangers. Interested in Pittsburgh,
Chicago, Detroit or Philadelphia. Why would he not want to come to the
Rangers? AV? Coming to NY is not the fastest way to get the SC.....who knows.

It dosen't make sense, he'd rather go be behind Malkin/Crosby than be instantly the #1 here and play with Nash/Kreider. The AV thing may be factoring in but I didn't hear that he ruled NY out completely?

I know they had some issues but I thought i saw AV mention they weren't a big deal anymore. He's not really what Pitt needs most anyway.

I bet the Rangers sign Callahan for 6 years $35m. Not horrible but not great either. That contract will be tough to swallow on the back half especially. I also think they are wary of valuable heart and soul guys who contribute more than points leaving (see Prust). Plus he is a very popular player even with his ridiculous contract demands.

The whole Callahan stuff is pretty frustrating but with the cap going up paying him $6m isn't good but they will have a ton of cap space to still improve the team in the offseason.

They'll regret the extra year or two of both RC and Girardi but I guess they could deal them and eat salary if it comes to that.

don't know how anyone could be mad at cally, he isn't doing anything on the ice to make you feel any different then you did a year or 2 ago, he's really not a game changer...his rep is doin what he's supposed to do, cally is still playing the game the best he can play it...is he a great player, NO! is a he a great team leader NOT REALLY, what he is is a blue collar player who gives his best nite in and nite out!

and all these comparisons, have we not learned anything about what players from other teams has done, to come here and b a bust!

only problem with the current team i c is consistency.. u beat cup champs to lose to a bottom cellar next game

Pasta. People are down on cally because he is over valuing himself by two million and two years. By asking or demanding that salary he is telling everyone he is more important than the team. He is an above average player looking to get start type of money

My hope is either trade cally for what you can get or keep him till end of the season and let him walk and replace him in free agency. Signing him to anywhere near 6 mill and above for 6 years is lunacy and he will quickly become a hated player by the fans as his numbers continue to dwindle.

Maybe a team will overpay for Cally at the deadline

I still think he gets signed for 6/36 but I just hope they move him

9:19AM: Callahan is down from his demands of seven-years and $7 million per year to SIX-YEARS and something less than $7 million, “maybe in the $6.5 to $6.75 million range.” (Bob McKenzie)

9:17AM: Callahan is down to six-years and at a number that is less than $7 million but not close to $6 million. (Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260)
