The 50 HR mark has been reached 43 times by 27 different players BUT......

of those 43 times it was only good enough 12 times to capture the MVP with Jimmie Foxx being the only one to win it twice.

Only 9 players have reached the 50 HR mark more then once & only Mark McGuire & Ralph Kiner NEVER won an MVP for there accomplishment.

Rick, what is the PED suspect breakdown of those 27 players. Can you post the list of the 27 and the years they hit 50+.

Vaughn....definitely PEDs. Belle as well given the career ending injury. Jones fell off the map, makes him likely too and we've discussed Junior as well.

What I find really amazing is that on that first list 8 of those 15 totals belong to Sosa & McGuire, and yet Bonds is the poster boy for steroids.

Others that reached the 50 HR mark that I believe did it legitimately simply because they are big guys are.....

    Jim Thome
    Cecil Fielder
    Prince Fielder
    Ryan Howard

The last two that accomplished it, Jose Batista whose power seemed to come out of no where (2010) and last season Chris Davis I think at this point you just want to believe that they're clean.

This is true, and what I'm about to say doesn't really apply to Sosa or Bonds, but McGwire hit 49 his rookie year, or should I say at least his first full season??? Sosa hit 15 his first full season... Bonds hit 16 his first season... Just saying...

I disagree COMPLETELY about Howard... the other 3 probably could have been naturally achieved...

Why Howard, I know he's completely broken down the last two seasons but the guy is 6'4 & weighs 240 lbs.

A while back I printed a list of players that have AVERAGED 40 Hrs over a 5 year period (200 or more HRs) There are 23 players in all. Howard had the 8th highest total 229 HRs between 2006-2010 that's an aver of almost 46 per year. NOTE: At least 10 of the players on the list have been connected to PEDs.
