I agree. I'm not sure I want him in NY at any price. Trade him, or let him walk. Miller can take his place, and probably get more points.

I'll be disappointed if they give him 6 years, 36 million. I was excited to see what they could get back at the deadline.

Thats one good quality about Sather, he makes the player come down to his price, though 6 is still a little high.

The fact that Sather offered him 5 y at 6 million tells me that teams were offering up crap for Callahan in trade discussions the past few weeks.

10:33PM Callahan’s latest offer was $6.3 per year and the Rangers rejected it. ( TFP)

9:07PM: “the Ryan Callahan camp has moved and they have been doing the moving as of late. He has gone from seven years to six years, which was a major sticking point, they have reduced their asking price to south of $6.5 million. Really, there is less than half a million a year difference between the Rangers offer of $6 million a year times six vs Callahan’s latest offer. As far as Callahan is concerned it is up to the Rangers to respond to the offer that was made on Friday. The clock is ticking, most people around the Rangers feel that they will not budge from 6 times 6, Callahan feels he has just made his move.” (Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading)

Seems like Sather is holding firm at 6/36, and good for him. I still think that is too much, but 6.3 per is really too much, so I guess it is something that Sather is sticking at 6/36.

I know it is all a negotiation, but my lord it is comical that Cally wouldn't think 6/36 is fair for what he is. That is over paying him for what he is, and he still wants more. Crazy stuff by Cally.

5:15PM: “I don’t usually use twitter as a public opinion tool but I can tell you that when we tweeted out the info of less than $6.5 and a $500,000 difference per year to bridge the gap, the response from New York Rangers fans was off the charts….$6 is too much, six years is too much and it was really vehement.” (Bob McKenzie on TSN 1050)

Good for Ranger fans. The true fans get it and think what Cally is asking for is nutty.

I've said I don't think Cally is worth 6 mil per, and still don't. However, every year salaries go up. This year with the cap going up there are going to be some crazy contracts given out. It's not what we think he's worth or comparing to prior contracts given out. It's what is the market now or this offseason. We all suspect Buffalo will go much higher and Cally's people know that. Others teams might also when it gets down to it. That's what he is looking at. While I'd have no problem trading him, I wouldn't give him away for a bag of pucks. If they're offered little for him, I'd rather sign him. Is $300,000 or even close to a mil per really that big a deal? Sather will probably blow that much or more on some 4th line horrible FA signing anyway. I'll be glad when it's over one way or another.

The only team that will offer Callahan anything close to that is Buffalo only because he is from there and they have literally NOTHING but draft picks to sell to the fans right now.

Sather knows 6/36 is more than he is worth so he wont budge. Don't have a problem with that. This deal will get done at 6/36 as many have said all along

You're probably right, and 6/36 is more than fair. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

It sounds like they have agreed on money but in addition to the overpayment Cally wants he also wants a NTC....Wow

8:33PM: “the price is still too high in the moment but this is a negotiation that seems to be changing by the hour. There is going to be on-going dialogue between the Rangers and Stephen Bartlett who represents Ryan Callahan but the Rangers are still open to pretty much every single option. Could they negotiate an extension and keep him as captain of the Rangers, yes they can do that. Could they find a suitable trade partner and trade him by the trade deadline, yes they could do that. As I said, there is nothing imminent on that front and they will pursue every option available. (Darren Dreger)

9:21PM: The Rangers, as of Tuesday night, were not any closer to striking a deal with Callahan than they were Tuesday morning. (NY Post)

Callahan is staying at six-years and $39 million while the Rangers are adamant about staying at six years and $36 million. Both sides feel that they have conceded enough already. (NY Post)

The Blues offered up Chris Stewart in a straight up swap, before he was sent to Buffalo, but the Rangers passed. Columbus has interest in Callahan but is not willing to pay what the Rangers are looking for. (NY Post)

The Miller trade actually works against the Rangers because now Buffalo has no reason to trade Stewart for RC. I wonder if Columbus would deal Foligno for him
