I agree Struds, I'm all about homegrown guys. But Cally's demands were just too ridiculous.

This. You cant pay him that for 6 years with a salary cap. See ya Cally, appreciate what you did but I would rather let him walk for nothing than cave to that and we got a really good player who wants to play here

guys still hung up on 1st round picks?

    the trade is a win

make the conference finals and its a 27-30 range pick who cares! you would be 4 wins from the finals. give me that over a 1st round pick any day of the week.

Agreed Cup. And signing delusional Cally to $6.5 x 6 would be totally insane

agree nj, can't always be playing for down the road when your goalie is already on the wrong side of 30 and your best player is in his prime.

Now if you can get Kesler for Stepan, Miller and a 3rd id jump all over it.

noooooooooooo 71....I'm all for going for it but that is way too much youth to give up when you've already gotten 10 years older on the wings. Miller and Stepan are two of the reasons that losing picks doesnt hurt us

I am torn on Stepan now. I don't think he will be a #1 C ever but he is young and we need to keep some youth

Granted, Callahan was not realistic........but he decided to follow the money.....adios cap-i-tan.
As for Sather and his machinations as GM 2014....obtains 39 yr old
    5' 61/2" and gives up 2015 1st round pick & 2014 2nd round pick.
It's clear.... TRY to win now....Fuck tomorrow.
    That's the PLAN.

And I am all for that plan cage. How it needs to be with Nash, Hank, Girardi all in their primes and ready to win now.

There is no doubt that today we are a better team. What that means results wise this year and next year is TBD, but we are a better team right now no doubt.

We are a better team with MSL but by how much better are we? There is even less size upfront now. How are they going to deal with the big teams?

MSL blows away Callahan (offensively) even at his age. This team needs offense, the day is still young. Sather needs to make 1 more deal IMO. The 1st round pick is going to be a mid to late 1st rounder. Not worth passing up a top scorer over, I mean we still have a lot of talent below and you can make deals if you have to later on to get back a pick or 2 if you feel you need to. What did Callahan bring against bigger teams? The ability to get hurt and not play for 3-5 weeks at a time lol?

Let me clarify, I really liked Cally as a player. He is a gritty guy with big intangibles. But this team as it was was just heading for its usual 2nd round and knocked out playoff run. Hank isn't getting any younger, I think it was worth the risk.

Please move Boyle or Stralman and get a tough, intimidating player for the 4th line that can play some.

I think he might turn into a Graves type for us and Boston probably would deal him and a pick for Stralman.
