Aside from the obvious stars that ever played for the Yankees who are some of the lesser great Yankees that you've liked over the years? For me it was......

Joe Pepitone, Tommy Tresh, Bobby Murcer & Roy White.

I guess it's hard to draw the line between obvious stars and the next tier...

I loved Paulie, but I'm not sure if he'd be considered a star or not... I also always like Jesse Barfield, Tino, Posada, & Bernie

This was under the assumptions that Jeter, Mo, & Mattingly were obvious stars...

I always liked the Ruben Sierra story--how he was a "me" kind of guy the first time he was there, prompting Torre to push for getting rid of him. Uttered the now infamous "all they care about over there is winning" line on his exit. Called Torre a liar and all that stuff. Torre said in one of his books that he was the most difficult player he ever managed. The light came on for him after that and Torre said he was was one of the best club house guys he had the second time around. Sports can be about redemption and Sierra fits in with that.

I was a big Mickey Rivers fan, than it was Willie Randolph than Donnie Baseball, then Bernie Williams, until recently it was Robbie Cano.
My wife (who only started watching baseball because of me) said her favorite was little Luis Sojo

Mickey Rivers was great. Had the best bat twirl, and after a swing and a miss, he would bite air. Lou Piniella and Oscar Gamble were fun to watch, and while they weren't great players (very good) - Graig Nettles and Chris Chambliss were reliable and tough.

Hey Mike, where the hell have you been? It seems like since that shit went down a few weeks ago that you've made yourself scarce. FWIW: all is good here now so keep your ass on board here. And yeah, how the hell could I forget about Chambliss? Just a complete class act & a very consistant bat while he was here. I hated the Yankees for trading him away. And for shit no less.

Anyway good to see you making an appearence. Keep it up. Don't make me come after you.

...Nettles was great on the field, great at bat...and in a twisted sort of way, great in the clubhouse.

Hey rick - like I posted - weekly trips between Florida and Arizona don't give me the time to post as much either here or on the other board, but it's good to see that things have stabilized here. Once the season starts, there will be obviously more to talk about, and I'm sure we'll be doing a lot of that.

Nettles always gets remembered for his 1978 WS performance (especially Game 3 - watched it live 12 rows behind 3B). BUT, Nettles signature moments for me came in the 1977 ALCS. Nettles was the one who went in hard on Frank White, as payback for Hal McRae rolling Willie Randolph at 2B, and when George Brett tried to payback in Game 5 when he bumped Nettles after his triple - Nettles went right after him, and took him down. Both plays reflected the grit of the 76-78 Yankees, and Nettles was the guy who wasn't gonna take, it, and shove it right back.

Never been to an OTD...used to watch them on TV but that's about it.

...it was hard to see players I grew up with like Mantle, Pepitone, Ford, Howard, Berra, Skowron, Richardson, Boyer, Kubek, et al, turn old and grey and no longer able to play.

I think he has rick - just hasn't been a regular like other guys.. He did have a rift with the Boss for several years after he and the Goose went to San Diego, but they did patch things up. In fact, Nettles was the guy who was brought into work with Arod back in 2004 to teach him how to play 3B.

Rick Cerrone, he did a heck of a job filling Munson's gear. Chuck Knoblauch before the crack set in. Shane Spencer had a lot of heart.
Currently I'm a Gardner and Cervelli fan.

...and on the flip side - some of the more infuriating players for me were Omar Moreno, Roy Smalley, Luis Polonia (with that glove that was twice the size of his body), Steve Kemp, Danny Tartabull to name a few....

Since becoming a Yankee Fan Nettles is my pick as best Yankee 3rd baseman over anyone.

...I know what you meant...I was only pointing out that unlike many of you who live closer to YS have the luxury of going to pretty much any game you choose...I don't. I have to watch the OTD games on TV...The closest I ever came was being at the Yanx/Sox July 4th weekend series back in 2008?...anyway, I remember Gardner getting the game ending walk off RBI in one of the games.
...I met Remembermunson (Louie) and Giambino (Jason) while I was up there...we had a blast
