Carmen Berra, wife of 65 years to Yogi Berra passed away last night. She was 85. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/69808/yogis-wife-carmen-dies-at-85?ex_cid=espnapi_public
RIP Carmen. As I read the post, it dawned on me just how large the Yankee Family truly is. The way they have embraced the wives of Munson, Murcer, the daughter of babe Ruth, and so many more truly makes this organization special in that regard.
...hate to say it, but Lawrence probably is not far behind her. Quite often it seems that when you're talking about marriages of this length, when one goes, the other follows close behind.
Saw this too, very sad, RIP Mrs. Berra. In this day and age, 85 seems a bit young. I've been spoiled in my family with that generation living into the 90's. The observation that long marriages equate to couples passing relatively close to each other is also common. My nanna did however last 3 years w/o my poppop. When we talked about how her parents died a year to the day apart, her response was...."I sent him off to war and he was gone 4 years, God I really missed that peace and quiet. I'm going to enjoy MY time!". To me the sad part is losing the "Great Depression/WW2" generation. There is so much toughness and american spirit that they can pass on to the young.
I was just about to post this. DAMN! 65 years. That's more then a marriage. we're talking Wife, life time partner & very best friend. And sadly I have to agree with 59 about Yogi not being far behind. Many years ago Bobby Darin did a beautiful song called "The other half of me". Carmen was Yogi's. R.I.P. Mrs Berra.
