Good Chance he could be traded by opening day. White Sox have been mentioned among others. Romine would then become backup.

...Cervelli has some value...I'm sure the Sox have someone the Yanx need more than a backup catcher.

...I think Gardner is safe because they just resigned him,... but Cisco, I'm not so sure.

The only name I had heard from the White Sox was Beckham. I think that is how you spell it.

I saw that same deal mentioned I think on the River Avenue Blog. I like Cervellis attitude and hustle, the man wants to be a Yankee keep him. Beckham never really got to where the White Sox thought he should be, go with Roberts and Johnson.

I don't like the idea of Johnson and Roberts full time. You know by May Roberts will be hurt. If they trade Cerv. Or another catcher they need to bring back a decent to good full time infielder in my opinion otherwise keep him.

It was a given they would be trading the stockpile of catchers they have, they have needs and a decent C is always in demand, I think both Cervelli and Romine could be traded, and Sanchez towards the deadline when hopefully his stock rises, NY could land the IF they need and more.

Roberts is definitely not the answer for 2nd base but honestly I don't think Beckham is either. And if it comes down to Cervelli or Romine as bait for ANY deal I'd rather see the Yankees hold onto Cervelli.

I've always liked Roberts, respected his game and am pulling for him to succeed for certain a risk and if the Yankees have to make another move then OK.

I'm also a fan of his game & want him to succeed, I just don't think that physically, he'll be able to hold up all season.

Signing McCann for the length of the deal they did should have automatically triggered trading at least 2 (if not 3) among Murphy, Cervelli, Sanchez, and Romine. Infielders, bullpen arms - all areas of need. They all have varying levels of value - Sanchez should get you an equally high end prospect at a position of need, Murphy and Cervelli would get them guy who make the opening day roster and be a decent contributor, Romine would get them a a guy who may be a major league ready call-up if a guy gets injured. No reason to hang on to all of these guys.

I figure by the last week of spring training, Cervelli or Romine will be gone. The job of backup will go to Murphy. Cervelli and add a possible minor leaguer for a infielder.

...yup, been talked about before, if there's an area that the Yanx have a surplus of talent, it's at the catcher position.

...like you say, I think maybe there are a few teams who will wait till near the end of ST to decide about which catchers to carry on the roster and/or to develop.

there is no reason to have murphy be a backup catcher he should go to AAA and work on being an everday catcher, not sit on the pine. Waste of talent.
Cisco is what you look for in a backup. Romaine would be the one I ship out

...Cervelli is the one with the most value right now...and if the situation arises that allows for a trade that would benefit the Yanx, you makes the trade.

...if Cervelli IS traded it would make room for whichever farm hand that is selected to be the backup...and they would likely get at least 40 starts in The Majors, which is much better experience than the minors would offer. and when not starting or playing, just being on the bench and around the team has also got to have some benefit for the youngsters.

...between Sanchez, Murphy, Romine, and Cisco, have a lot of flexibility. And if Cisco is traded, I'd like to see the other 3 get some time in the big leagues this year...and of the 3, I like Murphy.
