Anyone here enjoy the Allman Brothers? IMO Duane Allman was the greatest guitarist to ever live. His ability was amazing. Even after Duane died the band stayed great, that?s a real testament to Gregg that the band is still making great music 35 years after Duane died. I just looked up Duane on wiki and he actually died 35 years ago today. Weird. The current incarnation with Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes picking up the guitar work is fantastic. They play the old songs as good as they have ever been played and the new music is as good as the classics.

I really like the Allman Brothers Band as well. I agree that Duane has to be one of the greatest guitarists ever. I believe that Rolling Stone had him at number 2 behind Hendrix. I really loved his guitar play on Layla and other assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominoes. Both he and Clapton played for the band. Altough they never made another album, this is one of the greater albums in my opinion. Allman was brought in on some of the songs and just eventually just joined the band while recording the album. He is featured on every song after the 3rd track I believe. Great guitar player.

Many people don?t know that much of the guitar work on Clapton?s Layla is actually Duane. I?ve no real beef with Rolling Stone place Duane behind Hendrix in the top 100 players of all time. I love them both. Hendrix died at age 27 and Duane died at 24 I?ve often though if Allman would have gotten the extra 3 years he may be first on that list, but I suppose it really doesn?t matter.
