Will the Pistons ever win a title under Flip saunders? My answer is a simple hell no. Flip Saunders lacks everything it takes to beat the top teams in my opinion. - He is short sighted. - He's stubborn- He has no Killer instinct- He overlooks defense.- In crunch time, he's at his worst.- He can't trust his players- He can't motivate his players.- He can't develop his players. To me the guy is somebody you'd call a good assistant coach. He brings a certain something to the table, but definately not enough to warrant a coaching job on a top team. I'd love to see somebody defensive minded and who will show a little bit more passion in there. I think players play like their coach..and that's exactly what I saw ast year. I hope it will be different this season, but I doubt it. :ranting:
I think to win 16 playoff games you need a coach with a strong mentality. You also need a smart guy who can outcoach the other guy and win you some close games. I don't think Flip is either of those to be honest. He has a decent offense system, but aside from that, there's not much there. I think there's been an intimidation factor with players he's had to coach in his career that has made him a timid coach. In Minnesota, Kevin Garnett is bigger than the game, then you come to Detroit and have personalities like the Wallaces in the lockerroom... it doesn't get much easier.I agree, he's more slated as an assistant. He's like an NBA "offensive coordinator", if you will.
I think that Flip is one of the top offensive minds in the game, however I realize that it can both be a good thing, and a bad thing.Flip does have a lot of flaws, that is one reason why I think that Terry Porter (who got a raw deal in Milwaukee) will take over as the head coach after this season, or after next season.I would also like to see how the players would play under Joe Dumars should he ever decide to run the team. I know the entire organization has a great deal of respect for Joe, and I would like to see him coach the team sometime in the near future.

Larry Brown was our perfect coach, he was a great motivator, he trusted his players, he was great in crunch time, he emphasized defense, and he had the killer instinct. We don't need Flip, he is not a leader. I want someone that would be the Jim Leyland of basketball...someone who really knows the whole game. I think we can win a championship still...we almost did it last year...

Flip can't win a title with the Pistons. He has too many flaws. Larry Brown was great, and should still be here. Although Billups never really liked him, we would still probably have Ben if we still had Brown. Flip as coach was a main reason Big Ben left.
I know it's overstated and out of reach but I really think Laimbeer would be a great fit. Our players KNOW the game. They just need to remember to do the dirty stuff and get motivated. Laimbeer would be great doing that. God how I would love that so much.
I think he could win with the right team. Only time will tell if the current Pistons are the right team. Even if they are moving towards being the team he needs, I?m not sure this is the year. I can?t see this team getting out of the East. Last year?s team clearly was not what he needed to be successful. Under Flip Ben Wallace was essentially deadweight on the offensive end. Let's not get too hard on Flip yet. He's only been here one year and last year he lost to a better team. I?m not sure any coach could have gotten the Pistons past Miami.

Yeah it's not like there's a ton of great candidates kicking the door down. Bill is very much unproven as an NBA coach. Flip was given the job by default because he was the best guy available. The quality of coaching around the league is pretty poor right now.
