I had many a spirited debate about who to take and I was always on the "you can't pass on Shaq for Tmac" bandwagon.

I would have been okay with either picks, honestly, but if I would have known about the leg length thing, that might have swayed me in the direction of Durant.

I was on a plane too. From Hawaii. Heard message from my brother after we landed. First thing I thought was that it could be Jordan/Bowie all over again and with our NW rivals in Seattle this time. I was wishing we had gotten the second pick so that the choice would be made for us.

Yes. Especially since Jordan beat us in the Finals. How old are you? Do you not remember Jordan hitting all the threes and then shrugging at Magic on the sideline in Game 1 of 1992 Finals? It was embarrassing. Also remember, Jordan won MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. 1988 I think. Jordan was a beast and it sucked that we passed on him.

i remember a fair amount of lamenting, but the blazers were also really good at the time, so it was more of a "what if" not an "if only"

Also, Buck Williams was only a Blazer because we traded Sam Bowie for him... so while the team was really good (like it was for three years or so) it was easier to not lament the poor pick.

But, yeah. It still sucked even then... I was going to college near Chicago in the early '90's and we were SO CLOSE to letting me shut lots of local kids up. But ... it didn't happen.

Hindsight 20/20. Don't you remember this?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2007/news/story?id=2894925

The knock on GO was always can he stay healthy. KD? Was he physical enough for the NBA? Even if he could score, would he be a modern day George Gervin type? Seems ridiculous now with what KD has done in his career that his bench press number had anything to do with his draft value. If you just relied on the eye test back then, KD in a landslide. He crushed at Texas. Meanwhile, GO lumbered around Ohio St with his right hand in a cast. People marveled how could shoot 60% FT with his left hand. He looked clumsy at times, & foul prone. Once in a while he'd flash something special. But this was a guy who had been talked about since he was in the 7/8th grade. What we saw from him was suspect at times at OSU, but his legend had grown so much by then. Impossible not to draft him. People forget that there were concerns about KD though as well.

But it wasn't hindsight. I thought it then. Thought we would blow it.

Not many had KD over GO. If you were one that did, that's pretty impressive.

i think that 99% of us wanted oden, but there was always that nagging fear of the off chance of impending doom, at least for me

Yes there was. Kind of a "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you" kind of vibe.

You might be imagining it. Can you produce draft-day posting in which you wanted Durant?
