So I'll leave this column here and ask what folks think. Shame on Celtics' fans? I will only say that I understand the concept, understand the author's role in the sports media matrix in town, and I understand why it was executed as inelegantly as it was. I say that to say: trying to shame a Celtics fan into renouncing their delight at beating a (recent) rival is a bit ham-handed. Sure, this particular columnist is only around to stir the pot, no argument there, but let's not also forget that without those fans filling those arenas night in and night out, that columnist has nothing more to write about. There's nothing wrong with rooting for the local scene, and frankly, I love it in sport when things go wrong, I really do (and I predict things will go further in that direction for this C's team): but go easy on the fella who pays for a ticket. PS, I hope this team doesn't win another game. If they accomplish nothing else this season, let no one say they didn't lose as much as they should have.
Pretty sure the fans aren't buying tickets to go and root against the team. I understand what Minihane is getting at but he's a goof.
That's the thing I most take from this. How out of touch must you be to be upset with fans who actually got what they paid for? By all means, lose like crazy, but to say "shame on the fans" for enjoying the moment...he lost me.
