Someone on twitter just asked Daryl Morey what is the best move made by a GM in the past 10 years. His answer... Daryl Morey @dmorey Chad Buchanan - Gerald Wallace for #6 pick (Lillard)
That's more of an insult to the Nets GM than a compliment. It's also cheating, because it's combining two moves into one. The trade of Wallace for the #6 pick was good, but not "the best" because the #6 pick is just as often a bust as a good player. (And actually, it wasn't even the #6 pick - it was a pick that ended up being the #6 because the Nets unexpectedly sucked so badly.) Picking Lillard was a very nice move, but better players have been taken lower and anyway, it wasn't Buchanan who picked Lillard.
The Wallace for the #6 was a great move, but Rasta is right. It was just as much a great trade as it was a great pick. We could have picked Austin Rivers. I would honestly say, in terms of just a great trade, the Robin Lopez move was fucking fantastic.
I agree on most (especially the part re: it being two moves: the trade and the selection), but when the trade was made, the Nets were clearly going to be in the lottery, but there were some here expecting that we'd end up with, say, the 10-13th pick.
