This little known player was a career 300+ hitter & won 4 batting titles & yet ended up with barely 2000 hits for his career. Who was he?

The only help I'll be is that he played after the 1940s.

Please try not to cheat but if you do be kind enough to keep it to yourself.

Well that didn't take long, as an ex player I should have excluded you.

2 batting titles each with two different teams, The Cubs & the Pirates. a 15 year career that IMO ended pretty abruptly after the 87 season at the age of 36. Playing only half the season he still managed 14 HRs 50 RBI while batting a very respectable 279.

    I got another one here-

Jimbo Fungo Ballz-a 12 time batting champ, with a lifetime .299 B'avg., played for the Landscatter Dirt-(does Minor Leaguers Count)????
