The op question wasn't guess what stotts would do if blazers offered x.

It was would you bring him back as head coach? my answer was no but he'd be welcome as offensive coordinator.

This whole "Number One Offense" thing is a bunch of bunk.

To be the #1 offense you've gotta be ranked better than #19 in FG%:
    http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/offense-per-game/sort/fieldGoalPct

Or if you want to adjust FG% for 3-pointers, then we rank #14 - otherwise known as AVERAGE:
    http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/offense-per-game/sort/shootingEfficiency

If you want to make it a little more arcane in order to come up a couple more slots, then go ahead and use Points Per Shot and we're still only #11:
    http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/offense-per-game/sort/scoringEfficiency

Just because we're #1 in shot attempts doesn't mean we've got the best offense in the league:
    http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/offense/sort/fieldGoalsAttempted

Unreal. This team has completely overperformed and people are talking about replacing our coach? #grassisalwaysgreener

Remember our lockdown defensive coach, Rick Adelman? Man, I HATED that guy. What did he ever do for us?

If they finish 7th or 8th, they will not have overperformed. They overperformed for the first half of the season, but the second half has been a disaster.

Wow. If you can't see the potential of Stotts' system by now, then I guess you'll be on the "Bring Back Nate" train.

    So, in summation:

The team is in the throes of an epic collapse.
    Stotts is a genius.
    Olshey is a genius.
No player on this team should be traded unless they offer LeBron AND a couple of 1st round picks.

    My head hurts.

If you think this season is a disaster, you missed the lockout season, that's for sure.

BIG difference - people got fired, players got traded and there was a sense of accountability. I don't expect an unending supply of rainbows and unicorns - but when things go wrong, it is nice to see the franchise react. At this point, I would applaud if Stotts would just do something like insert TRob and Barton as starters. Just some feeble sign that the franchise cares.

The potential of Stotts' system is the same as a Paul Westhead or a Mike D'Antoni. They bank it all on one facet of the game. For D'Antoni or Westhead it was all about pushing the tempo. Seven seconds or less to get the ball up the court. For Stotts it's all about the three pointer. They're both gimmicks. Name one team that has won a championship with a gimmick offense. We have the stars to be a San Antonio, but we're not running a San Antonio offense. We play very little defense and we rely too much on outside shots. When those shots aren't falling, our team is pretty damn bad.

Probably a third of the teams in the league have the stars to play like San Antonio. I wonder why there's only one of them?

Really? A third of the league have arguably the best power forward in the game and an All-Star point guard who can get to the rim and shoot the three? Who are these other teams?

SA has aging stars past their prime and a bunch of role players. Yet they win at a huge clip. I guess your easy solution is to hire Gregg Popovich. M'kay.

    If we could.... fuck yes.

I've never understood how Paul's fortune hasn't played a larger role in bringing in the very best front office personnel. There's no salary cap for coaches. Offer Pop 100 million.

Pop has repeatedly stated his loyalty to the Spurs and most importantly to Duncan. He said when Duncan retires, he's done coaching

One of the things the Spurs have going for them is longevity of system and roster. Duncan gave up big money to resign Parker and Ginobli. Kobe wouldn't do that nor would Melo or many stars. I have a lot of respect for Pop and Duncan.

Uh....didn't you just prove his point that Stotts isn't an elite coach?
