Charone Peake gets medical redshirt Injured Clemson wide receiver Charone Peake was granted a medical waiver to restore his eligibility after missing most of last season. The school announced Peake's status Friday. The 6-foot-2 Peake was a starting receiver for the Tigers last fall but was hurt just two games in when he tore a knee ligament in a September practice. He needed surgery and was out for Clemson's last 11 games. Peake had been the team's second-leading receiver with eight catches for 84 yards and a touchdown when he was hurt. RB Ryan Green has shoulder surgery Running back depth was a question for Florida State entering the spring, but the Seminoles won't be able to ascertain much until August following the latest string of injuries at the position. Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher announced Monday sophomore running back Ryan Green will miss the remainder of the spring with a shoulder injury. Green, seen with his right arm in a sling at Monday's scrimmage, had surgery the shoulder within the last week. Fisher did not disclose what specifically Green injured, electing to just call it a shoulder injury. As a true freshman in 2013, Green played sparingly, rushing for 163 yards on 33 carries. This spring, he was competing for the backup running back spot behind starter Karlos Williams, and Fisher spent the first two weeks praising the 5-foot-10, 195-pound sophomore. Deshaun Watson out for spring game Clemson Tigers freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has been competing this spring for the starting job, suffered a slight crack in his collarbone during the Tigers' scrimmage on Monday afternoon and will be out for three weeks, according to the school's scrimmage report. Brandon Connette granted transfer Duke quarterback Brandon Connette will transfer to be closer to his mother in California, who is battling cancer, coach David Cutcliffe announced Thursday. Connette's mother, Nancy, was diagnosed with cancer in 2013. The Blue Devils have fulfilled Connette's request to provide permission to schools close to his home of Corona, Calif. He will have immediate eligibility at his new school because he graduated with a degree in economics from Duke in December. James Wilder Jr. arrested, released Former Florida State running back James Wilder Jr. was arrested Sunday on a bench warrant related to driving with a suspended license, jail records show. Jake McGee leaving Virginia Virginia tight end Jake McGee, one of the Cavaliers' top playmakers and their leading pass-catcher in 2013, will transfer following his graduation in May, the school announced on Friday. McGee led the Cavaliers in receiving last year with 43 catches and 395 yards. This spring, he moved to wide receiver to better make use of his athletic ability. "I want to thank Jake for his contributions to the Virginia program and wish him the best," coach Mike London said in a statement. "When I came to UVa, he was one of the first players we recruited because he had committed to play for me at Richmond. I am very proud of the fact he will graduate from the University this spring. ACC keeps eight-game schedule The Atlantic Coast Conference will remain at eight league games, commissioner John Swofford said Monday from the ACC's spring meetings. The league's athletic directors voted to remain at eight conference games Monday. It's just a formality but the league's faculty athletic representatives will officially approve it on Thursday. Besides remaining at eight conference games, Swofford said starting in 2017 ACC teams must annually play at least one nonconference game against a team from a power five conference. Jameis Winston safe on football side Two-sport star Jameis Winston, who was issued a civil citation on April 29 for shoplifting, will not face any punishment or suspensions that would impact him on the football field, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday. Winston, a reliever for the Seminoles' baseball team, was suspended last week from playing in a three-game series against Minnesota. He was reinstated to the team after completing 20 hours of community service. Winston was issued the citation after walking out of a Publix supermarket without paying for $32 worth of crab legs and crawfish. "If he would have been in football only, he would have been suspended from football activities only until we took care of all those things," Fisher said. QB Jake Heaps transferring to Miami Quarterback Jake Heaps is transferring from Kansas to Miami, where the former five-star recruit will join a team short on experienced passers. Hurricanes coach Al Golden announced in a news release Sunday that Heaps has signed a financial aid agreement with the school. He has already graduated and will be eligible to play immediately. Florida State suspends Jesus Wilson Florida State receiver Jesus Wilson has been suspended from the football team after facing a felony charge in the theft of a motor scooter, officials said Wednesday. Police say Wilson was stopped as he rode a motor scooter days after it was reported stolen on campus June 11. Wilson said a friend loaned him the vehicle. An investigation ensued, and Wilson was later arrested and charged with third-degree grand motor theft. He turned himself in Wednesday and was freed on $2,500 bond. FSU spokesman Rob Wilson said the athletics department's code of conduct forbids a player from representing the team when charged with a felony. Jesus Wilson is not eligible to play or travel, but can practice and is not automatically kicked off the team.
